And does the govt really pay any attention to ensuring compliance? NO.

The Federal Govt Insulation program is a classic case in point.
The State Govt agencies with regulatory authority are as limp as a 3 day old lettuce leaf when it comes to ensuring compliance.

Not too disimilar to the John Condon crew perhaps? ;)

Your point is a valid one though.

Tipper, I think Booney's got a valid point - how about base salary, overtime, allowances, long service leave etc? All of those affect total wage and salary costs for any business.

Yes it does effect teh costs for a business, but a business doesnt have a cap imposed on their spending on such things. they can spend however much they deem necessary, and if the boss deems that booney has had an exceptional year at work, he may choose to reward him with a christmas bonus which is over and above the agreed to figure.

i know with my work i have a base salary, but if i happen to get myself some overtime i get paid more than what that says. it is an incentive to do extra work. my employer cant know at the start of the financial year how much overtime i will choose to do, so it cant be factored into the base salary figure.

Surely performance incentives or any variables are always calculated in anticipation of the club having to pay every cent and not the opposite. ( paying no incentives )

You are thinking of it only from the employees point of view. The employer can not know exactly the cost of an employee - you may incur training, medical or other costs. You may have to be supplied with special equipment (ie ergonic workstation so that you can easily post on SAfooty) etc etc.

Mutiply this by 40 on a training list plus all of the other scenarios of players coming and going and the salary cap is a much more difficult beast that you are describing.

So I'll take it you've accepted you were wrong and Norwood aren't currently banned from recruiting? You are always a poster who insists on being factual after all.

If you want to claim that its not ironic that you were laughing at North because they got a fine for being over the salary cap. Because your recruiting ban finished all of two weeks ago. You are more than welcome.

Next time If I was you Id probably wait to hear the penalty before mouthing off to opposition clubs about salary cap breaches. Maybe this thread would of ended a few pages ago and you wouldnt have to be back peddling so much.

Not overly surprised you Norwood fans are jumping on what ever small victories you can get. I mean you did sing the club song after a trial game victory.

Don't feed the troll Squawk. Just be pleased to know losing a trial game obviously hurts :)

I think Norwood exceed the cap by over 30k so were nowhere near this buffer zone hence the differing punishments.

Any update on a link to these rules yet? I'd assumed if things were being 'quoted' they must have come from official sources.

I don't think the SANFL have all their rules and regulations up on their website, so there may not be a link but that is the rule.

I have asked in past and been told there is no web link -- further all clubs have hard copy that members can approach their club to read if they wish.

No wonder there is confusion when they go out of their way to make them so easily available to all supporters -- in this day and age one would think a link on the SANFL site similar to the two for the rules of the game (main rules - modifications for SANFL footy) may just be appropriate -- however, what do we mere supporters know?

That's something I don't understand. Such as Reserves finals qualifications; that improbable tie-breaker situation of two teams heading into the finals with the same record; exactly what the salary cap entails and so on.

It effects the clubs and in turn supporters and members should know why things happen to their clubs.

No dramas. All me to summarise.

North Adelaide got fined for a technical breach of the salary cap. Norwood got busted deliberately cheating the system. And were penalised accordingly.

To quote your goodself "I can now console myself with the fact that Norwood's salary cap issue last year was just a 'technical' one. "

Yet again you couldnt be more wrong.

And you couldn't be more from the truth if you tried.

We informed the SANFL that we had gone over the Salary Cap by accident after monthly reviewing Salary Cap
and reported ourselves imediately. We got taken to the cleaners and IMHO severely punished.

So much for being honest.

I can only hope that any club caught out in the future gets the lot with an upgrade!!!

Cheers

I don't think that's quite right either. An initial breach was discovered (not volunteered) and then subsequent irregularities were volunteered.

A little higher and more independent than yours.
What Norwood volunteered was a breach of about $5000 after the initial breach of $25000 was discovered ($10,000 of which was, as alluded to earlier in this thread, to do with Doyle's coaching agreement.)
Cheers.
