Another balanced post from you, Squawk, which I agree with.

I shuld say that I've listened to RPH footy for years and appreciate what they do, even if I disagree strongly with some of their procedures.

It's just my opinion only, but I fail to see why a priority should be that they have a guest(s) of the game(s) they're calling. Their audience is made up of supporters from all sides, so why disregard 7/9ths of your audience as a starting point?

I'll listen again tonight, but I'm getting close to the stage of not bothering. If a show wants to disregard its listeners by ignoring balance, its listeners will probably eventually disregard it in return.

LOL R&B - I think you may be confusing "objective" with "subjective". Clearly you are taking the objective approach (which I empathise with!) but RPH is taking the subjective approach which is a common one is all media. That is, promote yourself at every opportunity. In other words, featuring guests from their broadcast game is intended to attract punters to listen in to the game day broadcast. In this case though, I reckon the neutral supporters (beyond Central v South) will be VERY interested in the Sturt v West and Glenelg v Eagles games, but will definitely become interested in Central v Port if (and only if) an upset is on the cards at the Ponderosa. There's a fourth game on this week too I think.....

Once again I understand your point, mate, but I disagree with RPH about the promotion.

If they want to use the Footy Show to promote the games they're calling, fine, but if they want other supporters to listen, it's a bit self-defeating.

If they want to promote the game, why can't a guest from the Magpies suffice?

Overall, it's not a huge deal to me, just an irritation, but irritations eventually lead to one less listener.

The whole thing about RPH is it is a community radio station, not reliant on ratings etc, therefore should be run by volunteers (and is 90% of the time)

However when it comes to their footy coverage it isnt. They are paid (not by the station but by the advertisers) and this has caused more and more ads and sponsors on their coverage which in the end really denegrates the SANFL.

Get sponsors to cover your costs for sure, but to line their pockets, no.

Im sure the $$$ also means that some of them wont give it up and let a younger more enthusiastic broadcaster have a crack.

Former Redlegs Premiership player and 200 gamer Justin Scanlon was a guest on the League Teams Show tonight, was a very enjoyable interview, mainly spoke about the famous 84 Grand Final win...

Will post the podcast links tomorrow morning for those that missed out on it...

Doesnt matter what they earn. But the fact is they earn $$$ from a station that is based on volunteers.

And the more sponsors they get the more $ in their pocket, doesnt sit right with me. For example they now have each end of the ground sponsored! (e.g. the Barry Stoodley Pty Ltd end!)

As I said no issues with some sponsors to cover costs, but this year it has just gone silly...

Cut the sponsors and have no commentators and hence no coverage.

Brilliant idea!

if ever the coverage stops from both 5rph & life fm, i wonder what people would think then ??, ffs they give a great service for the best 'real' competition in the land & to 'pay the bills' these adds etc upsets a few   perhaps those few could pay for the cost & hear their name every now & then instead, i for one am happy to hear it especially when you consider the alternative of getting the odd update during the afl coverage on either 5AN or 5AA.........think about it hearing a game with adds or the odd update on the afl coverage ???
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I hear ya Dutchy and I reckon you'd like to say a bit more in a plain english sort of way, but if people read your comments carefully they can put them in genuine context...

Life FM is the premium station for SANFL. RPH is useful and better than nothing but need to get their house in order, as you say. ;)

As it happened, I couldn't listen in last night.

Who were the guests, Phil?

(I promise I'll say nothing ;) )

Sorry about the late reply, but the guests on last nights show were as follows:

Darryl Smith and Dennis Browne were the hosts as I suspected...

The first guest was in relation to Multicultural Round this weekend...

Hieu Van Le (Lt Gov)

Justin Scanlon - Former Norwood Premiership player and 200 gamer in 'Yesterday's Hero' segment

(They were hoping to speak to Quinton Graham but he was 'in-transit' on his way to appear on the AFL Footy Show)

Thank god for that R&B, that would have been a Central connection on the show  ;)
