Why did he end up at West?

Didnt an AFL player transfering teams have to go to the bottom placed side from the year before. If they didnt want him then the 8th, 7th etc.

Did neither South or Port want him.

I think that went "out the window" a while ago. Port got Surjan and Lockwood from Centrals, two examples that come to mind. Centrals got that Irish guy last year from the Bays, he's now gone back to Ireland.

It can be overriden in certain circumstances. For example, Port listed Jordan Johns was at South last year, but transferred to Norwood this year. I stand corrected, but I believe the AFL club can override the normal rules if it's deemed in the player's best interests not to go to the next club in line (for example, if Chris Schmidt wanted to leave West for whatever reason, it may not make much sense for him to be aligned to South, where they already have plenty of midfielders, which would limit his opportunities).

would've thought he'd get more of an opportunity at Sturt ATM. Is it based on last years ladder or the current one? If so wouldve thought Sturt would be first choice.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Johns no longer on Port Adelaide's list. So he was free to move where he liked

I think transfer money is involved. Therefore I guess it's the club that's willing to pay that gets the fish.

I think the difference is that Motlop was originally drafted from North. I think the rule is different if the player arrived at the SANFL club via the mini-draft. e.g when Willits wanted to leave the bays, West had first option as we were the reigning wooden spooner. When Jericho wanted to leave us, he could choose where he wanted to go as he was originally a West player.

But that doesn't explain the reasons behind Surjan, Lockwood and a couple of others ending up at Port.

I hope Motlop is willing to play alot of reserves football because of what I have seen of him so far he wont be pushing anyone out of our team unless there are a heap of injuries.

But I think as mentioned the AFL club can decide to send them where they like. Lockwood and Surjan were mini-draft players and didn't go to the wooden spooner. Conveniently, they went to Port magpies as Power listed players. The ruckman from North, Gilligan, also went to Port, (before anyone comments, I don't know where the skipper went).
P.S Beat me too it bloods08.

Yes, points taken, maybe there's room for some discretion for the AFL clubs. Or maybe I'm just wrong.

Email from the club confirming his move to West and will play in the reserves this weekend. Also Ben Newton, Port Powers draft pick from last year (pick 35) will front up for the first time in the reserves this week after overcoming injuries.

At this stage, not happy with Marlon Motlop joining us. not a fan of his playing ability or work ethic at all.

I think most bloods supporters would feel the same. Hopefully he can prove us all wrong.

Wait until he gets selected into your League team simply because he is on an AFL list at the expense of someone who doesn't deserve to be dropped then you will whinge!

His last game for North was in the League team against South and the reason he spent only 30 percent on the field and the rest on the bench is because when he came on he showed no desire, he was lazy and soft and avoided going near a contest so much so he deliberately pulled out of one marking contest out of fear! He is a pouting lazy soft scared footballer who, apart from his first league game, has done nothing since including a majority of games he played in the ressies.

Maybe Collins can get something out of him that 3 coaches at North haven't been able to get but Marlon will blame everyone but himself???

anyone read inside footy this week ? (if the smarties can copy it for me that'd be appreciated thanks)

i was shown it at the newsagency when i went to buy my harness weekly which wasn't in, anyway this particular articles head line was ''glenelg to chase chad'' (or similar) written by ashley PORTer, it basically said that glenelg wanted chad as playing coach from next year, the story belongs in the jokes thread on this forum, absolutely utter garbage...................................on a side note when would ashley PORTer had last visited an sanfl game ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
