Might be a good move, needs to improve his football and improve it quickly. He will be cut by the Crows this year otherwise.
Another case of permanent potential.

From the link..."It is understood he will be played as a permanent forward in Glenelg’s attack, as opposed to pinch hitting in the ruck as well as playing forward at Noarlunga."

Sounds like the position he plays at South is exactly the same type of role he will play with the Crows if selected so surely he would be better off staying and developing that part of his game?

Yeah made me giggle also. If he does get a run for Adelaide he'll be rucking ahead of Jenkins. And does he not realise the Bays already have a couple of decent tall fowards in Trembath and Kirkby.

Yeah, that is what I thought too. How many fringe AFL players have moved SANFL clubs and gone on to have good AFL careers? Most seem to be out the door fairly quickly. Oh well, seems like soon we won't have this problem.

I can understand why he is moving but as a Glenelg fan I would be a tad worried that they are promising play a player in one position only. That's very restrictive

Dont think McKernan being played forward is out of position, clutching at straws. He is a better player than Danny Butcher, Young and Newton

Agree but the point is extremly similar, no matter what match conditions, weather conditions, team balance etc etc they are agreeing to play him solely in the forward lines and no where else.

What happens if a ruck goes down injured early in a game, are they going to be allowed to move him into the ruck etc.

Mckernan will be doing some ruck work for the Bays, it's inevitable.

Personally I think he played his best footy for South when rucking and drifting forward, rather than as a permanent CHF.

I guess McKernan is the right size to ruck in the SANFL but too small to ruck in the AFL so to play AFL he needs to play forward.

Im sure whufc is the situation arises he will be able to play other positions, Crows are not as rigid ;)

Bays going to become the Crows reserves team :)

If the Crows are "not as rigid", then why did he leave South? Are there other reasons?

So did Adelaide move him for more opportunity, did Glenelg pursue him openly knowing of any potential for him to move or did the player instigate this move on his own?

I'd like to know the answer to this.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Doesn't really answer these questions, but here is South's public stance on the matter:

The South Adelaide Football Club has agreed to the transfer of Adelaide Crows listed player Shaun McKernan (April 11th)
The South Adelaide Football Club has agreed to the transfer of Adelaide Crows listed player Shaun McKernan to Glenelg Football Club.

Shaun played 44 games for the Club since joining in 2009 via the SANFL Mini-draft.

South Adelaide Football Manager Neill Sharpe said the Club was having difficulty in fitting Shaun into its forward line structure and was happy to facilitate a move.

“Our forward line just wasn’t functioning effectively with Wundke, Eddy and McKernan in it. Clearly it would have been unfair to Shaun’s chances of an AFL recall if he was to play predominantly as a ruckman.

“We are comfortable with the move and thank Shaun for his contribution to South Adelaide and wish him all the best with his AFL career.”
