Will betting agencies still offer markets in such a compromised league? Will the SANFL lose revenue through this?

Any team we will put out will be playing to win and competing. If you have a young team, there's going to be some development in there as well, but that's no different to any SANFL club with a young group. David

I appreciate the response, David.
I agree the 18 blokes on the park will be playing to win, but I was referring to club and coaching staff itself. Will the club's main interest be to win with it's reserves side every week or just develop for it's side in another league? I'm not convinced...

Look forward to a response to this. And in regards to betting? Correct me if I'm wrong, but do umpires still run around with tab on their backs?

What about the cash reimbursement grass roots clubs & leagues usually get as players progress though to SANFL league milestones, AFL drafting, AFL selection?
Will junior clubs & leagues still be recognised, seeing as these lads will be taken out of the usual AFL pathway reimbursement system?

These pool players remain the property of the SANFL clubs. So, for instance, if a Glenelg player impresses with our reserves and gets drafted to an AFL club, the same AFL transfer fees apply.
Cheers, David

Thanks David
Just for clarification - I am interested in the cash reimbursement the junior club gets for the player playing SANFL League football more so than AFL at this stage.

eg When Daniel Webb reached 25 league games at Westies, the Southern Football League and Flagstaff Hill Football Club received payment from Westies.
If a top-up player ends up playing 25 league games for Adelaide Reserves, will the same system apply?

As has been mentioned each SANFL club has different setup costs and break even costs. Surely if you've done your research thoroughly and are assured of your supporter turnout this would be a non issue and give host clubs certainty.

David, I can't find where you reckon this has been answered. I've asked it numerous times now, it's a simple question and as a Sturt supporter one which is VERY revelent. Please answer.

We expect crowds of between 2000 and 6000. The SANFL clubs will be no more at risk of covering match costs than they would playing most other SANFL club. Clubs make most of their match day revenue from catering etc. But the overall financial package put together for this proposal will be a positive result for the SANFL Clubs, even if absolutely no-one turned up to our games. And that's not going to happen.
David

So under Adelaide's proposal you're more than happy to put host clubs at risk of running at a loss while the AFC risks nothing and walks away happy with another hit out. Gee, where can we all sign up?
You also didn't answer as to WHY Adelaide aren't prepared to cover the gate IF your supporters don't turn up.
Could you please answer this for me.

I think its great that David has come on here to answer some questions. Regardless of whether people like his answers or not, having some feedback from an AFC official to us and us to him is extremely positive.

I do hope the League Directors vote no this time around, simply to allow AFC the opportunity to include SANFL fans as a stakeholder and not concern themselves with only the League Directors and SANFL Commission.

In the end it is the fans that will determine whether this is the right move or not...

... disappoint the fans and everyone eventually loses.

Well at least the SANFL clubs would lose.

What is the maximum the AFC will give to a club to get the vote through??

$150,000

will each club receive the same, or those that vote no get a little extra to get them across the line??

I've had some doubts. But yes, I've tried.

Remember, I run a website with 60,000 unique visitors each week, a Facebook page with 107,000 fans, a Twitter account with 34,000 followers and a stack of trolls, and we have a membership of 47,000. So you get used to different views.

I appreciate your efforts David but you havent changed the perception that crows have got nothing to offer but scare tactics of if we don't the footy boogey monster might get us. Whilst talking Down the oldest the oldest football leaguein australia for your own selfish reasons.

When is the timeline on when you'll need a final decision?? 100% proving to all you aren't bluffing re Amatuers. September /October/November.

An update ... today is not going to be "D-Day: for the reserves decision. The Commission did want to have SANFL club feedback on the model it endorsed two weeks ago but it is expected that discussion will continue. The AFC has not set a deadline for a decision. David

David,

Apologies if this has been asked of you previously.

Is your presence on this site and your admirable efforts to answer questions on the AFL reserves debate club sanctioned or have you taken this upon yourself as GM (Communications) to enter into the forum / social media world to take questions?

If this is club sanctioned can I ask who advised this to be undertaken?

David, sorry if this has already been asked, but why isn't the club interested in hosting games at Thebby if you are included in the SANFL?

David, could you please attempt to answer some of the tougher questions on previous pages? i.e. the ones that relate to the supposed benefits of this proposal.

I know it is unlikely but early in the season it could happen, all 47 Crows listed players fit and healthy looking for a game.

22 to the AFL side
21 to the SANFL/SAAFL

Where do the other 4 play?

Was there ever any thought from all the non Victorian clubs of getting together to form their own reserves comp & play each other 3 times a year for a 21 round comp. It would mean only 9 trips interstate per team.

No, I don't believe so. They are different markets, those two teams rarely leave Victoria to play AFL games, and they don't have a tradition of competition that the SANFL has in its favour. I understand that if we play at South in the middle of July and its wet and cold, its going to be a hard sell. But it would be the same for other visiting SANFL clubs. My view is that there is also opportunity for some very big crowds (relatively for SANFL). What was the biggest home-and-away crowd last season - 6500?

Thank you for your answer to this question, I suspect crowds may be higher at the begining of the season when more AFC players are available, and may track downwards over the season, but no doubt we will find out in due course.

Dave,

Can I ask you honestly what you consider to be some of the negatives of this move could (I emphasise could) be for the SANFL?

All we keep seeing is glossy and everything will be awesome posts, and with all due respect, if it was that simple do you think it would have taken so long to decide this if this was truly the case?

I want to see if the AFC has done any risk assessment about this for us and themselves.
