I don't think I watched the last 5 minutes either. I had to turn around. Oh so close. Very glad the boys fought back but in some regards it would have been easier to handle if we were thrashed I think!! I keep going over all the what ifs. If I'm doing that, imagine what the players are doing!

Still really happy with Centrals this year. They have had a horror run with injuries right up to the Grand Final and they still managed to get within 3 points playing one quarter of footy. I know that the players and Roy would not accept any of that though. That is what makes the club great!

Am I being too harsh (due to my natural bias against the Murdoch press ;) ) or is this a pretty crap effort for a front page after the closest grand final in over three decades, and one that was won by the underdogs????

I did see that next to the lifts in the lobby on my building and raise my eyebrows...
Would've been nice! But, I wouldn't have expected it.

Yep a crap effort. I have deliberately not looked at the paper or read Adelaide Now because it will hurt too much. At least I know I can look at the front of the Advertiser now without getting upset.

As a neutral I think it came down to the midfield, sure Centrals lacked some height up forward but with some of the passes into the forward line it wouldnt have mattered who was down there. Eagles seemed to get their goals with more system, due to run they had thru the midfield. Even in the first 5 mins I was surprised how much time some Eagles players had with the ball to make decisions, Centrals usually cut down that time with their pressure.

Also noticeable yesterday how big the WWT bodies where, something no other team has put up against CD for a while IMO.

Looking at it from the opposite perspective I was delighted/surprised to see the coverage the SANFL GF got in the Australian today for an event that has minimal national interest.

firstly well done to the eagles they went in with a game plan to move the ball quickly when they had control of the ball and to create a stoppage and hold it in when centrals had control, the eagles played better footy for most of the day centrals really only got into the game in the last 1/4 when the eagles were getting tried and the bulldogs nearly pinched it with the last kick of the day.
full credit to centrals for never saying die, they managed to get back into the game late and as i said before they nearly pinched it with spur kick just missing.

i thought luke powell was BOG he was hard at it all day getting his hands on it at the stoppages and getting it out to the runners, lewis 2nd, parry and redden controlling the ruck the eagles best IMO. i thought luke jarred had a shocker and as a mate of mine said "dont give him the t s hill cup he will probably drop that too"

centrals best i thought was boyd, but they had a lot of players that were down on the day which could be attributed to the eagles pressure, big pumpa had a shocker which probably made parry look good!

to the centrals supporters well done on this site you have been graciousness in defeat despite the ribbing from other posters so bad luck but keep you head high your club is the envy and bench mark for all the other clubs in the league.

cheers BOH

So proud of the boys on Sunday. The game is never won against the dogs and 60 more seconds may have seen us lose.
A significant day for the club to stand up against the best and prevail. A loss would have devastated the club after being the better side for 3/4
Thought Powell for his toughness was outstanding and numerous cameos got us over the line.
At mid season, I was very disappointed with our recruits - Tiller, Raymond and Hall. I thought their contributions Sunday were significant and justified their recruitment.
Still in shock, we just don't jag grand finals like that!!!

Agree. Especially about the big bodies. I was worried as soon as I found out we were playing the Eagles. Losing Hardy didn't help either. We really missed him in the backlines. Oh well, you win some you lose some. Could be worse, I could follow Glenelg. ;)

Good post wedgetail. Hopefully it will really build our club internally and earn a bit more respect externally.

Agree about the recruits, Raymond showed a little early in the year and then faded. Think the biggest problem seemed to be trying to find their right roles within the team, and thankfully the coaching staff got that right over the last few weeks.

the advertiser should hang there heads in shame with that effort. one of the best games south australian footy has seen in ages and they have motor sports on the front page, i could under stand it if it was the clipsal but it was a race in NSW. bring us the top stories in the state first then the rest of australia then the rest of the world. the murdoch press can get stuffed (could have done a parry their and dropped the f-bomb) i am now boycotting their publications

In fairness to the Advertiser there was a big article about same sex marriage which reminded me of the Woodville/West Torrens merger.

Well said. Agree with the comment on recruits. All have played a significant part as the season has gone on. Raymond in particular had an outstanding finals series and should keep the headgear for the remainder of his career!

P**s weak Advertiser.

Well done Eagles WAAAAAYYYYYYY to good on the day! Parry, Lewis, Powell killed us through the middle and our defence was always going to be undersized so we couldnt afford the Eagles to get so many inside fifties. In hindsight i have no doubt Lairdy would bring in Reichart instead of Dunne but before the game i thought he had made the right move.

Hard to judge crowd ratios especially considering the Premiers bar was packed with Dogs supporters while the game was on who were watching both the football and bathurst. Either way that was a reasonable crowd and Eagle supporters were there in good voice and colour.

Real weird feeling yesterday, speaking to alot of Dog supporters and myself included they didnt suffer from the pre match nerves at all (not because we thought we would win easily, just because) and the Premiers Bar before the game was very subdude. Got the impression alot of people were there just for the sake of being there.

Only lowlight of the day was the ex eagles player who decided spitting from the corporate box onto the Central fans below was a great way to celebrate the win. Was a very lucky boy people couldnt get up to where he was, would be interested to know what action the police took as they were speaking to him about it.

Anyways CONGRATULATIONS EAGLES!

Obviously a great performance from the young lad at Bathurst deserving the share the front page.

Was actually very disappointed with the Advertiser coverage last week. Each day a full two-page spread on who some journalists thought were the best 50 AFL players. Why not this week? How about getting off you bums and going out an interviewing some of the players that had great stories leading into last weeks GF eg O'Sullivan, Lewis, Parry, and a few others.
AdelaideNow okay.

That Australian article is a gem though. Love the opening line
