"we" and "Port Power" are sets with a very small intersect.

Let me strike some real fear into your hearts and minds. We could be on the brink of losing the SANFL, the competition that we've loved for 140 years, to the AFL juggernaut. The very future of our home grown comp has been put under severe pressure by the turmoil at Port Adelaide.
My biggest worry now is that when the AFL hands over it;'s fat cheque for $9 million to bail out broke and hapless PA, it's going to come with strings attached. Our financial crisis has opened the door for the AFL to flex it's muscle and a make a move to take control of the game here, something it has wanted to do for many years.
When Andrew Demetriou and Mike Fitzpatrick sit down with the SANFL's Leigh Whicker and John Olsen to thrash out the deal in Melbourne today, you can bet your last dollar they'll be laying down some stringent conditions.
They will want something in return for their money and high on their wish list will be a stronger say on the governance of football here. The AFLSA? God forbid!
And if they do get their way, I expect the slash and burn to begin, with key targets the player development fund and a reduction in the SANFL's salary cap which sits at a very modest $353,000.
It's a drop in the ocean compared with the AFL's massive $8.21 million cap and even that is certain to rise in the wake of of the new $1.2 billion TV rights deal.
With an average AFL player earning $240,000 a year, the SANFL cap for one team is the equivalent of 1.5 AFL players. That is a huge disparity.
Since 1995 the AFL’s development grant has risen a paltry 25 per cent. In the same period, it’s salary cap has lept an astronomical 300 per cent.
Unlike the AFL, most SANFL footballers also hold down full-time jobs so a diminished local salary cap would see players who’ve missed the AFL bus chasing more lucrative pay cheques as a marquee signing with regional clubs.
Despite all that’s going on at Alberton, the SANFL is in good shape and remains the second-best footy comp in the nation. Last year, all the clubs turned in a profit for the first time in living memory. The clubs run on the smell of an oily rag, with each employing an average six to eight full-time staff.
They’d lose money if they had to rely solely on their football operation, so it speaks volumes of their management structures that they can generate other income streams through corporate backing and fundraising.
Why should we allow anyone to tamper with and dismantle a model that’s working brilliantly?
I urge both Leigh Whicker and John Olsen to fight tooth and nail to resist any decision that would further weaken the SANFL’s financial position and that of it’s nine clubs. Don’t send SA footy down the gurgler. And don’t allow us to become the AFL’s puppets.

SANFL guys have a 7 day a week committment to their footy, and maintain full time jobs.
Support staff, stats people & Trainers are all volunteers. Canteens & BBQs are all run by volunteers.
In AFL circles these people are all paid.
Even the paid staff at SANFL clubs work way above and beyond the hours they are actually paid for.
SANFL clubs run efficiently now though people's love for their club.
AFL clubs are run as a business. If they weren't paid, I reckon most of them wouldn't be there.

Rucci will be sharpenning the knives faster than the management at 5AA.
Without a doubt KG has somehow bypassed the editors desk, snuck down the back stars to the print room, slipped the print master a slab of Coopers Sparkling Ale, who baraks for the Bloods, and said "quick, get this to print while everyone upstairs are slapping each other on the back and saying well done."
Seriously though, well done KG. The balanced view in print, what a breath of clean air, and the best bit of opinion in the paper .
Note to KG . Get some sponsors together with your vast experience, go to the management of RPH with a package to present a drivetime program, say three days a week, so we can have a REAL sports program on Adelaide radio. Am sure it would be a success and be a revenue stream for RPH with sponsors who back SA footy.
Count me as a sponsor if the price is right and it comes together.

This was actually a decent article, and the Advertiser will print these in as well. Its sort of the Rucci v the World that they like to present, very much how they had Cornes and ******* Wilson writing those god damn articles. Anyway it was interesting. I would say that the SANFL should sell the power or put it back in the hands of the AFL to find a buyer.
In the last few days I have been "schooled" in the wealth of the SANFL and there assests so I dont believe what KG is talking about is really that much of a threat. Like I said get rid of the bad assest (power) and run with the good assest (Crows) as the crows are a revenue machine, they have plenty of members and sponser and seem to always be able to turn a profit and this is considering the amount they already pump into the SANFL.
Just my opinion. I do admit I like the SANFL the way it is set up now and thats why I also stated before the port and crows reserves would not work.

I think Coopers Stadium is an exception to this rule - using the same outsourcing mob AAMI Stadium use, not sure if that's organised by the club or the council given the other sports that are played at the ground in summer.
