What would you want in a weekly SANFL publication that the budget currently does not do?

I use to like the flashbacks to this round 20/10 years ago etc. Maybe a where are they now segment as well.

They should also just have details of the whole squad instead of trying to guess the players for the upcoming round, as most of the time they leave someone out.

An interesting article or two wouldn't go astray neither.

I don't buy the budget any more. Dad does out of habit.

The budget's aim should be to fulfill someone's attention for an entire half time break - at the moment it lasts about 2 minutes.

As reported last night on 5AA - the SANFL Directors voted 7-1 not to have Crows and Power Reserves sides in the SANFL.

South voted in favour but in the context of the discussion their vote was YES in regards to exploring the option further - not a YES for it to happen.

This vote is one of only two topics or agenda items the 8 SANFL Directors are able to a directly control or vote on i.e. admitting or reducing the number of teams in the comp. The other being they can vote is the make up of the SANFL Commission in terms of electing new Commissioners. The remainder of SANFL decisions lie directly in the control of the Commission who can overide the Directors on any other matter outside the two I previously mentioned.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

OK here is my solution

Let the Crows and Power have their own side in the SANFL reserves competition

My major issue is a reserves side in a league competition threatens the integrity of the league.

The might as well call the VFL the VFR becuase mostly there are seen as the Victorian Football Reserves.

Plus most of the players in the AFL sides will not be up to SANFL league standard
- ie there are either the 17/18 years olds just out of TAC Cup or Under 18 leagues
- fill up players pulled from junior or amateur grades

This the best level they should be playing for their development.

Those AFL regulars coming pack from injury MAY be playing in a lower level comp than previous BUT
- there are there mainly to have a run so level of comp not too important

The losers will be the AFL fringe players but hey
- this will only make them more hungry to get back to AFL level
- they can "develop" their leadership skills being a senior player in this group

Having a resevres team in a reserves competition means everyone playing has the same objective, developing players for your league side.

According to one of Rucci's articles (so take that into account) Trigg has rejected the idea of their Reserves side playing in the SANFL Reserves. I can't see why he'd object though as the main reason they give for fielding a Reserves team is keeping their players together playing to the same patterns and structures. It's not about their players playing against strong opposition...they already do that in the SANFL as is.

West have the most with 15 on AFL lists and Eagles 2nd with 14. Central have the least with 6 and Norwood with 7.

West: 15 AFL players - Crows (3 home grown/3 imports) / Power (2 home grown/7 imports)
Eagles: 14 - Crows (5 home grown/3 imports) / Power (5 home grown/1 import)
Glenelg: 11 - Crows (1 home grown/3 imports) / Power (5 home grown/2 import)
South: 11 - Crows (1 home grown/6 imports) / Power (1 home grown/3 imports)
North: 10 - Crows (4 home grown/2 imports) / Power (3 home grown/1 import)
Port Magpies: 10 - Crows (2 home grown/2 imports) / Power (1 home grown/5 imports)
Sturt: 9 - Crows (2 home grown/3 imports) / Power (2 home grown/2 imports)
Norwood: 7 - Crows (0 home grown/ 2 imports) / Power (2 home grown/ 3 imports)
Central: 6 - Crows (2 home grown / 2 imports) / Power (2 home grown/ 0 imports)

I counted someone like Simon Phillips as a home grown by the way, given he was recruited to the Power from Norwood.

edit: fixed

Interesting that 2 of the best clubs for season 2010/11 have little or no influence of players tracking back from AFL clubs in Adelaide !!!!

If the Crows and the Power want a Reserves team then let them have one in the VFL and pay for it accordingly if they dont like the current arrangment. Either of them have any right to treat the SANFL as subordinate to their own competition and any moves to have reserves in the SANFL should be vigourously opposed. I suspect that right about now some of the AFL cronies within the SANFL are perhaps a little surprised at how strongly its being rejected by the clubs and those that follow the SANFL. I suggest that we have hardly scratched the surface yet in what can be done to reject their stupid idea.

It would threaten more than integrity. Programming matches around a bye AND two extra teams in only one grade would be a logistical nightmare. If the AFL teams want reserves well so be it - but stick 'em in some other league.

It is also worth noting that there is no such proposal at the moment. And if the WAFL clubs reject the proposal over there I think that would make it more unlikely that one would be put up in SA.

Agreed .. Reckon this will be the stumbling block (initially at least) for the WA AFL clubs having Reserves teams also.

Think you'll find it to be a 10 team comp of the current 9 zones divided amongst 8 teams. port magpies would be Port Powers reserves and a Crows reserves team.

Still doesn't justify it though.

If the Power and Crows (which I don't believe they do) want a reserves team create a specific AFl reserves competition.

It is also intersesting to note that in 2005-6 when Crows, Power, West Coast, and Freo were in the top eight our model of having teams dispersed across the local clubs was viewed as the preferred model for player development. It is one of the reasons why North and Footscray had their players split over two VFL clubs for a period of time - players had to earn a kick. I remember Gerald Wheatly going on about as I drove to footy in the Wimmera on the Grandstand program.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

We had five, Lyons, Cornes, Hitchcock, Salopek and Meyer (2s). Shaw injured. Douglas, Sellar, Boak, Logan and Cornes all played AFL.

There would be all sorts of problems with this. It would be easier to align them with an SANFL team, but really thats not really a decent solution either. I dont understand whats wrong with the current setup? It works well in the fact that each week you have to earn your spot.

Nothing wrong with it IMO. Craig himself has said it is preferrable to having a ressies team that may be half made up of kids. With both AFL teams struggling, the AFL besotted local media is looking for excuses why, and this appears to be another. it wont change the fact that below average footballers like Cook, Seller, Henderson, Moran are your fringe players in Adelaide's case.
