I can understand why it may have looked that way though.

You grow up in a place like Elizabeth and you know what goes on around you amongst some of the population but you get tired of being painted with the same brush. The dominance of our football club over the past decade has been a way of us saying "hey look mate, some good can come from this place".

The noble sentiments in your second paragraph are undone by the twits in your first IMO. I got a new respect for lots of Centrals people around us yesterday who were sensible, fair and didn't seem to have that chip on their shoulder which translates to violence. Those supporters will be the positive force for change Elizabeth is looking for, not the nongs letting off smoke bombs and flares.

Violence? What violence? Why bring that up?

Notice I never defended the flares. The noise I was commenting on was the noise of joy, singing and dancing, sharing in something special and unique.

I saw several thousand people dancing and being joyous with some flares lit by some over exuberant people.
You saw flares lit by idiots and people making noise.

BTW, Voice, your mob at the southern end brought some great colour to the day.
I thought the whole day was participated in great spirit by the players and supporters of both sides.

Not at all.
Was the only thing you noticed the flares?
Or did you also notice the dancing, singing and chanting?

What dance were they doing? I'm picturing a GF from the 90s when hundred of people were bootskooting.
If 20,000 were all doing the bus stop in time then I'm buying a DVD!

They were doing the dance of the inebriated yobbo and some were showing a little flair.

Yeah it was definayely one of those as it was the last one I went to for 7 years. It took me that long to get over it!
We actually drove past Marion on the way to the game and saw them all rehearsing. We laughed and I said I feel sorry for the poor bastards that are copping that for entertainment only to find out a few hours later it was us!

Oh God! The pain, I'd blocked the Macarena part out of my mind. As if the image of them bootskooting to what was probably a Lee Kernaghan song wasn't bad enough.
No wonder the SANFL are soft on flares as the amount of pain, suffering and scars possible is nothing compared to what the SANFL inflicted on us that day in 1996!

It wasn't Lee Kernaghan, it was worse.

Once again i'm not having a go but most high profile people would have personal security wherever they go, did she? (this is not suggesting going to Elizabeth requires security, i'd be asking the same if she went to any SANFL club).

Umm when she arrived, she had as security her mum. Infact the club security rushed out when she arrived, to get photo's with her. No private security was seen, and we were sitting just inside the club where she came in. Only problem was a horde of people wanting her autograph.

That's great to hear and a credit to her and the Dogs supporters. Fantastic that she could attend and have a good time.

From listening to her brother on the radio it sounded like perhaps it would have been better if security had got her in to a seperate section. Sounded like she spent the whole time signing autographs and had to leave after an hour.

In the interview she did with the 'Tiser, she said she "felt like part of the community".
