I think Corbett was our only recruit for the year to play on Saturday . Surely a lack of quality in this area is one of the contributing factors to our years inconsistant form ? If you have the ear of any Board types , then now is the time to remind them Ron needs $ not excuses . I will leave it in your capable hands gentlemen ! Surely Lee is good for another game this also !

100% correct re recruits playing in league on saturday Holden. Tom Corbett (5th game) has done very well.

But I think to be fair to the lads in the team on Saturday, the 4 boys we have developed through our club ranks, who are first year league players need a mention too.

Matthew Broadbent (9 games), Nathan Daniel (10), Matthew Goldsworthy (3), Chris Hall (6) plus Jonno Lee recruited to club (last year) playing his 2nd league game.

Plus those who started last year with a few games Petrenko now played 13 and Geddes now played 15 games.

5 recruits were in the 2s - 2 of whom coming back from injury - 2 dropped from league squad of 23 - with a couple of recruits on the injury side lines including Rimmington & Schwarze.

Recruiting is however always a hot topic but i would say our recruiting does stack up when you look at saturday's team - ages also interesting as most have a long term future with us.
Klun (27), Jarrad (24), Treeby (24), Passador (29), Powell (27), Grocke (24), Lee (19), Colville (32), Corbett (22) McKenzie (25)

So of the 21 who played on saturday - 10 were recruits 11 through our own ranks.

I'm sure the debate will continue and of course you always look to who is available and fits your needs and is affordable.
Should we rest on the past - No - we are always on the look-out Australia wide as is every other club.

Although initially annoyed earlier in the year especially with performances like the game against Sturt at Woodville Fuller has shown once gain that he has a knack of producing quality youngsters and blooding them at League level. That alone plus the fact that we're not far off the pack should gurantee him a new contract. With the continued improvement of these young kids and a higher output from the more experienced down on form can see us back amongst the race for the flag sooner than we all thought. Maybe not 2009 but come 2010 I think we can be playing off for the flag. Go the Mighty Eagles !!! Keep up the good work Ronnie !!!

Have seen him listed in the papers amongst better players and goal kickers for Bendigo Bombers in the last few weeks on and off. Was his only reason for playing in the VFL to get a chance for Essendon to look at redrafting him ?

With this an unlikely prospect becaus of having the knee reconstruction, will he return home or just stay in Melbourne ? I guess it might depend on whether he is set up with a full time job, has he bought a house ???

We will just have to wait and see I guess ? Also, with a few interesting retirements from the AFL this week (some forced, others chosen !!) will there be a few SANFL clubs putting their feelers out to some of these guys to find out what their playing intentions are after AFL ??? I knwo of a few local clubs that wouldn't mind a Shannon Grant, Adam Yze, Mark Johnson, Damian Pevirill or Jeff White leading them in their ruck ???

Now with all due respect C D , this Recruiting topic is the most interesting & important one now & in our forseeable future . Get it right & we can fear no one ala Centrals ; get it wrong & fight with two other clubs for cutlery every year ! I , along with many other members , believe that the Board have failed to back Fuller in over the last two years with the $ to get the quality thats needed . You can spin it any which way you want CD , but your ignoring the obvious & the members on the whole know the truth when they look on the field . Port nicked Clayton from under our noses after his initial agreement to come to us ( classic example ! ! ) , we fart assed around with Skippy , waiting for him to decide to come back or not ; Biagi ends up being second choice & last minute desporado pickup , whos heart wasnt in it from the first time he played . Yes we have some quality , but to compete at the top ala Centrals each year , a club must invest & trust the head coaches stated needs each & every finishing season . You & the other 8 persons of interest on the board , in the last 2 years , have let Fuller & more importantly us members down with your lack of appreciation for what we want , really want ...... to win & be entertained by good football , not outstanding fiscal reports ( secondary ! ) . You & your group have been too conservative , just look back to 06 when we brought in Dabrowski , Cooper , Jarrod & Grocke , while losing next to nobody ............ result = flag ! This time though it will take more money then those 4 , but it can be done again if the coach is ALLOWED to . Jeremy Clayton was deemed not affordable at the time & we did win a subsequent flag , but CD hindsight will say he would have been worth every dollar , still is ! Invest in BLUE CHIP , not junk bonds like this years joke effort ( not all ! ) Aeeeeh..... to have Clayton ? ( QUOte="cd"]100% correct re recruits playing in league on saturday Holden. Holden, just wondering if you have ever contacted the club directly with your feelings/concerns on the matters you raise on this site regarding the team, players, the board etc.

I have seen comments in other threads that the club has dismissed comments from sites such as this, in my opinion this understandable as regardless of how passionate they are, they are in most cases anonymous (just as my comments are) and in some cases more destructive than constructive. Im sure the club would take more notice of your suggestions / criticisms / feelings if you were to pass them on directly and with your contact details than they would if you only post them here.

I like you want to see lots of wins and entertaining football, like we saw for 3 quarters last week, but that can't happen without the good financial results that have been achieved recently and will hopefully continue to be achieved, thanks to people like CD and his colleagues on the board and Kanta and his staff. Despite the season not going anywhere near how we as supporters now expect it to, it is still alive, the first elimination final was last week, hopefully the boys can back it up for elimination final number two on Saturday.

Go Eagles!
Trust the process.
