Port AFL has a choice - Status Quo with no reserves teams and the magpies survive
OR THEY elect to kill the Port Magpies with the 100+ years tradition and have a reserves. No one is forcing port to have a reserves team its the club that will make the sacrifice and the cant blame the SANFL if they choose this option.
As for the Crows - Get stuffed and play somewhere else.
Spot on. If port power "one club", kill off the magpies, will they then not support grass roots football and have no community involvement ? Which they make out is one of their concerns.
As for chapman making the unfounded, groundless assumption that a crows reserves side would add $40,000 to an sanfl clubs coffers on match day is farcical (particularly coming from someone with a finance/ football background). I could just as easily contend a crowd of 1,000 is more likely, based on interstate experiences and sanfl supporter feedback. How many people are interested in going to watch 5-10 second string pap or crows players play.
1,000 through the gate at $14, equals $14,000. Providing these are all pay at the gate attendees
, not children or home games that are included in your membership.
What's the cost of match payments for the game? Complete guess, even $200 a player, about $4,000. Other costs, insurance, security, other paid staff? Wow, $10,000 sure sounds attractive to screw up our competition,
Again, demonstrate the advantage to the SANFL teams of playing in our comp or get stuffed!
