Publicly they are keeping their cards to their chest and saying they won't decide until they have all the information (which is fair enough really), but reading between the lines of various statements and from some whispers, we are concerned that they will cave in and vote yes, which will upset a lot of members!

Don't worry though yet, the Snouts have made their feelings on this very well known to the club, and we won't give up without a fight!

No idea really, it has been communicated via Snouts from the CEO that they haven't discussed it at board level. A number of the posts on Snouts have been forwarded in an email to Nelson and Chiggy which they have acknowledged.

I dont see any tangible benefit for the stronger off field clubs that draw good crowds to vote YES.

My "mail" is that that many of the League Directors (and indeed some Commission members) are running scared of AFL Reserves Teams in our League Comp after they became aware of the current Peel Thunder debacle. Granted the model proposed by the Crows and Power are not along the lines of the WAFL model as such but much that has happened in the west is a fear for the SANFL Clubs especially the top up player options for the Crows model. Will their 40 plus year old staff members be registered just in case?

Interesting. NAFC website, member and supporter poll, apparently is overwhelmingly not in favour of an afl pty.ltd. presence inn the SANFL. According to Mr. Rucci whilst commenting on 5AA this morning.. Presenter, D Pembarthy, blew his own feet off when he tried to pump the bags of afl.pty.ltd [crows]. When asked by Rooch, " who would you go to see, Sturt v North, or crows v Glenelg?" he answered , STURT..!!!!!

Sort of completely screws the idea of 3000 EXTRA !!!!! people turning up week after week after week to a crows game in the SANFL.
I have to say, well done Michealangilo, very well ambushed. Probably converted a few of the fence sitters to thinking " NO afl.pty.ltd. in the SANFL

Interesting

Here is what they think,

EAST PERTH 20.17 (137) DEFEATED PEEL THUNDER 7.4 (46)

Despite a promising first quarter, the boys from Peel Thunder could not match it with an up and going East Perth.

Our inexperienced younger players in Hockings, B.Smith, Field, McKenna, Westwood and Forster really got to feel what it was like to be under extreme pressure. We as a team will stick together and make sure we give our best effort week in week out.

We have been disappointed with some of list walking away from their team mates, and not putting the team first. In the end it will be the resilience of the players and staff that hang in there whom will enjoy our successes when they come….and they will come.

Our better players on the day were Marlon Motlop, Toby Gianatti and Peter Faulks.

Cam Shepherd

My take is this fiasco is partly due to Peel never developing a winning culture (or any culture) if you talk to some ex players since their inception.

Their creation probably falls into the category of, "seemed like a good idea at the time"

Cannot foresee the same situation occurring at Alberton, where winning Premierships will be the aim at both levels.

It's natural for players of 'aligned' clubs to seek opportunities elsewhere.

A classic example is Box Hill Hawks who are partnered with (actually, in reality controlled by) Hawthorn.

They won something like 3 reserves flags in a row, playing in 4 or 5 reserves grand finals in a row. A number of their players should have been playing seniors, but with so many Hawthorn players fit, they filled up most of the spots in the seniors.

Most of the reserves player (once over 21) headed to play suburban football in the EFL, while others went to Frankston, where as a standalone side they got a crack at senior footy.

I also remember a major farce that Hawthorn created in 2011.

It was the last round of the AFL (with Hawthorn playing the Gold Coast) and the elimination final in the VFL.

Clarkson decided to rest 8 Hawthorn players that round, so that combined with injuries, saw THIRTEEN changes needed to made by Box Hill going into that final... essentially fielding the reserves side.
To those players credit, they put up a fight and lost by about 4 goals.

THIS is how an AFL reserves team compromises the SANFL.

No one can guarantee this won't happen

X2 and the risk that it may happen is not worth taking based on what we currently know about the deal the AFL wants

Good read re the AFL situation but nothing new to what most of us already knew but it sums up in one place all the possible options (+ and - parts ) to this point. I guess by the time next week comes out we may have a clearer idea of the AFL Clubs proposed models and the likely vote based on that. I believe the PAFC will present a "watered down" version of their main wish list to try and satisfy the SANFL sceptics and those clubs that will vote no but at the end of the day both proposals have to be the same and that means Port virtually have to offer up the Magpies and that structure as a casualty just to get a look in.
