lol, so that means something is not right.

Club thought for the rest of the season rather than appointing someone they would all "chip in" ( I would say mainly Collins) to save some money. Would have thought a smart move.

Never said that, you said players left and they have done a good job without them, I just mentioned they also lost Mickan, so I was just adding to your post about them doing a good job. :?

How much?

Thats correct, $25,000 I think it was. Also sold some Hawks memorabilia from his premiership years to help the club.

Serious? And after all that he is walking away? Something isn't right...[/quote]

This is where I got "something is not right"

Perphaps I read your post incorrectly, as you dont give them any credit usually ;)

Dont think he is walking away, reckon it was a mutual decision. Has taken the group as far as he can after 6 years. Coaches dont seem to last that long at clubs theses days.

This year we got two recruits, one was paid by Collins (Tuck) and the other was paid for by members/supporters (Mangan). When you consider the players that left at the end of lastr season Fisher x2, Caruso x2, Willets plus a couple of others, he has done a good job.

All clubs lose players. Some of higher quality.

Dear all,

I needed to write one last time to say thank you to all Westies people for the wonderful experience and privilege of being the Head Coach of the West Adelaide Football Club. The players and coaches would have loved a fairytale ending to the season but the truth was that we were not at our best when we needed to be.

After 6 years I have decided to move on. As stated previously I believe the Club needs a new coach and vision to support the Board in the challenges that the Club currently faces. I am very proud of the playing group and staff in becoming such a competitive team and Club. Back to back top 3 finishes for the first time in 50 years, the first South Australian team to win the National Foxtel Cup and most significantly we have provided a wonderful Club for young boys and men to grow as footballers and people.

After the game I was very emotional. I admire and care greatly for the players and staff and knowing that I will not be their coach moving forward was and is tough. I could not bring myself back to the Club on Sunday night after the game and I apologise if I offended anybody by this action but I hope you can understand. We really wanted to win a SANFL grand final together.

To the sponsors who have become my friends I thank you for your personal support and Club contributions. To the families I thank you for entrusting us to be part of your boy’s life and to the supporters and members a big thank you for being patient as we became a winning team.

My biggest thanks and love is to the football staff and players throughout the Club that has made this job such a pleasure. I will miss seeing and speaking to you all on a regular basis but hope to remain a friend for life.

Regards,
Andrew Collins

Interesting decision. Thought he was looking to get into the AFL structure in some capacity, Richmond FC was rumoured.

Given the Western Bulldogs end their association with Williamstown at the end of this season to see Williamstown return to being a stand alone club without any AFL affiliation, maybe Colljns prefers being involved in state footy and developing young players into young men?
