at first I was very surprised at who got the job, but now a day or so later I've gotten used to someone I didn't like as a player (mainly because of the guernsey he wore) being our coach, I'm hoping he does really well and gets us back up the pointy end of the ladder

Anyhoo the club has made its decision, they see Ken as the best fit for the position and i too, wish him all the best.

I understand Ron Fuller to be the only full time coach remaining in the SANFL.

Most sensible people would accept that the process of appointing both PAFC coaches was hindered somewhat by unforseen and unfortunate events.

At the moment the article reads well and he's said all the right things. Unless he starts losing that's good enough for me.

No, the little General at the Eagles is definately full-time!

So it appears Norwood and the Crows are doing fairly well in slowly taking over the entire Port Adelaide operation.
Perhaps it is time to set up the renaming and colour selection committee. ;)

I wish K Mc well and hope he can get the Magpies up the ladder.
If they can get rid of that baggage known as the Power maybe things will be easier.

Im shocked there has been little backlash at the treatment of Stephen Williams. Why does that club always hurt the ones that love it so much....... now that it is in its teal blue guise and rarely wins I doubt it will be as easy to lure them back.

Anyway didnt Ken McGregor retire from the SANFL because he didnt have the time anymore?

Was handled really poorly by the club. Why they would tell players who the coach was before telling the other candidates they were unsuccessful is beyond me. I don't think there was any malice in it as Stephen Williams was coach when Leys got his premierships. The teal side of things has nothing to do with anything

If its Bamford I think it's in everyone's best interests that he wasn't at Port next year. Would be hard for KenMC with him still at the club. It's like moving in with your girlfriend and having her ex renting out one of the spare bedrooms!

He may be talking about Julian **** who was U18 coach and development manager at port, but lives down South.

Seems as though some on here knew before the playing group did and there is little doubt news spreads faster in todays world than ever before. I agree that the candidates who were in the final 2-3 should have been told in person immediately once the decison was made to appoint McGregor, but who knows how long it was between that decision / the players being told / Willams finding out.

Have spoken to one senior player who is most happy with the appointment of an "outsider"...

Why wasn't Stephen Williams appointed? ... was undoubtedly the best credentialled candidate by a mile

Did he pay for the alleged sins of his brother?

Are there nuances I'm not seeing here? Isn't the poster just saying Mark Williams was a rubbish coach?

Why so? :?

I'm backing the Williams clan ... hence the word alleged

I thought Stephen was (is) a bloody good coach, surely that's an essential criteria ... should have nothing to do with Choco, but it seems Jenny and Mark are verboten these days.

Am I mistaken?

It was, the unsuccessful candidates should of been notified before the players were told that Ken McGregor got the gig. As for the player who got the message (which was a group message) that Williams read, I'm guessing it must have Jackson Williams? Stephen's son.
