Surely Norwood would appeal the 'high contact' charge cause there wasnt any.

Im not sure Norwood would get much of a say in it .. I think his "owners" would provide the direction on this one.

As someone else mentioned earlier - the problem for Walker is the two actions in the tackle. Delvins was holding himself upright for a couple of seconds with Walker intent on getting him to the ground and he eventually did by slinging him and his head did hit the ground, not in the first impact but as a result of a whiplash action due to the force his shoulder made with the ground. Anyone at the ground could see that Delvins was slow to get up and clearly dazed - certainly not winded as suggested.

Although I don't think it was in any way intentional, players have to know if they wrap a players arm then sling them like the few cases we have seen they run the risk of injury to their opponent and will get either reported or reviewed.

As for the Alleway report - if he gets more than one then that will be a joke although Grocke got 3 last year for punching McIntyre although that was different given Macca got carted off to hospital re suspected broken ribs. Shenton "allegedly" kneed Alleway at some point just before he threw the punch but it is hard to tell from the footage where that happened but apparently from the North-Eastern pocket it was seen. In any case Alleway should have just stuck to push and shove and been more disciplined. I suggest he has worn the patience of the tribunal although both his previous reports were a joke and rightly he was found not guilty so that shouldn't be a factor but I'm sure it will be.

The sling tackle does have the potential to cause injury at the nastiest end of the scale, and I don't have a problem with it being stamped out .. In this instance whilst Delvins might not have been hurt, it's probably only favourable luck that decided that.

I think the fact Walks looked straight at the ump meant he might have realised he was a little heavy handed with the tackle .. With Jericho going down he would have been very handy this week, so we take the 1 week and life goes on.

A very level headed comment, well said and I concur 100%.

Re: the discussions on the state of the ground, yes it is a winter sport, and yes getting muddy is part of it too.

Before going to Norwood I watch my son play A2 B's on a ground that was 95% better.

I expect the QUALITY of facilities for SANFL to be between AFL and SAAFL, more SAAFL end clearly.

Imagine the whinging if you had to stand ankle deep in mud at the bar waiting to get a Coopers!

What was the 'sling' tackle called before it is branded? Now that the tackle has been ajudicated as a 1 match suspension we should then expect a minimum of 3 reports per team per week. If parents are going to stop their kids from playing football due to 'sling' tackles then its a sad day. I could understand if was a behind the ball incident or a blatent biff!!

Sheesh. I thought tackling was to impede the player with the ball so he cant kick or handball. The best way to do that is take the player to ground I thought. So if you run a player a down and bring em to ground its ok, but what are you meant to do in a pack situation? Give the player a hug?

This summer I will go watch some rec footy, to give me a taste of what footy is going to be like in a few years time.

Cant believe Francou got off. Saying what he thinks and all. Should have got 5 games. ;)

Dont worry moves are on the way to stop tackling in Junior footy as such until U13's at least   all it will be is touch and let go

Yeah my son played in Modis a few years back and you were only allowed to bump the player and not tackle. Reckon more kids got hurt because if the guy going for the ball had his head down he would get cleaned up because the kids knew they wernt allowed to tackle so to try and get the ball they would just bump the player no matter what position they were in. Saw a lot of head high bumps and wasnt a fan of the concept.

I have a son and a grandson playing footy. I would hate to see them drilled into the turf or the mud in the manner of Walker on Delvins. I was there and it was a matter of LUCK that he isnt like another NAFC player with a broken neck. Equally I, as a parent, grand-parent and footy lover WOULD NOT BE PROUD or my son or grandson trying to smash an opponent. STAMP IT OUT. Guttless and totally STUPID !!!!

Pretty sure when I playing primary school footy (early 80s), tackling wasn't allowed until the U/12 level.
I think the rule was 3 bumps on the player with the ball to get 'holding the ball'.

The problem with bumping (saw it with my son going through that stage) is that kids can get hurt more as players try to hit harder as it is the only way to stop the player from getting away. I don't think it achieves anything. A good tackle in kids footy stops the play, they both drop to the ground, get up, dust themselves off and get on with it.

Lets teach them how to tackle properly (without the sling remembering most are to small to do that) and develop the safety within the game.

Luckily it didn't happen so we'd be spared Wedgie making jokes about paralysis or whufc sending them amusing texts in hospital.

:D or something.
