Mark Mickan Sacked

A brave move by the GFC to terminate him mid-season. Time will tell whether it is the right one. Unlike most mid-season sackings, Massie still has a real chance of guiding Glenelg to the finals and making something of the season with regards to results on field. It seems Mickan had already taken the path of getting game time into youngsters which makes his sacking a little hard to stomach.

There are definitely two sides to this. Mickan has turned Glenelg around to be a side you hope to win against as opposed to expect to win. For the vast majority of the last few years they have been the best side in the competition during the minor round.

It will be interesting to see what happens from here. You'd think that the senior players would feel a bit disenchanted with what's happened and my tip is we'll see no improvement from Glenelg for a couple of seasons now. However it may just be what was needed and Glenelg might immediately storm up the ladder - which it sounds as if the Glenelg board is demanding.

Yeah, I dunno. When hes not acting like an 8 year old with a learning disability and actually talks football I think he comes across as quite savvy re: tactics and setups.

I've only seen them play twice this year. They were "comical" both times. At the bay, continually moving the ball sideways and slowing it down until put under pressure was bizarre. Especially as they had an extra player for much of the game. Leaving James Gowans alone in the goal square was baffling. Whether, much of this was the players effort, the coaches instruction, or the players inability to execute the coaches game plan, I wouldn't know.
Their good must be very good. To have such a massive come back against Sturt was pretty amazing. The side always looks pretty good on paper, I wonder if over the last few years a different coach could have done as well?
I wonder if now the message has stopped getting through to the players, which may not be Mickan's fault. Is the consensus amongst Bay supporters, that it's a good move?

His "tell us a joke" schtick at training sessions didn't last long and by then the damage was done. 3/4 time isn't really meant to be a stand up comedy routine for the spectators.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I never had an issue with Rowey, it was the club that appointed him with the condition that he couldnt make every game. As Ive said to a few people, would Centrals accept that? No.

Centrals certainly have had non game day coaches, not sure about the current situation. They also have had coaches who cannot make it to training but are present on game day.

No Burgess was a Caretaker Coach as well. He was our Reserves Coach at the time, who was appointed until the end of the season. Reserves lost the Grand Final by 1 point that year.
When applications were requested, Mickan won the role.

Technically was "caretaker" coach; though the honour board has Peter Simmons and Tony Burgess jointly listed in the coach position of that year.

Is Burge still at the Panthers? Always thought he'd make a great senior coach, I wonder if he'd be keen...

Match Day coaches for Central, in recent seasons, who don't get to training but are involved on game day include Neil McGoran, Dwayne Jones and Craig Potter.

They reckon you're okay. ;) Seriously Craig Potter was a very good player. From memory came from the Bears with Simon Luhrs (could be wrong). Was a "tough nut". Neil McGoran, I don't remember playing much league, was always in and out the league side. Played a lot of reserves (from memory). Dwayne Jones ? Sorry off topic. Umm yeh, I think the Bays will stay in the five and then it will be interesting.

Well, seeing where this thread is going.
...who should Glenelg target for our next coach?

I say Roy Laird.
Here's his chance to prove himself.
Can he lift a poor performing club to be Premiers? Ala - Williams, Oatey, Kerley?
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!
