The Coopers deal is off for now

North Adelaide Football Club would like to advise members that we cannot proceed with the
Coopers Brewery Sponsorship for 2010. The reasons are as follows:

•The SANFL and its Clubs were party to an agreement with Lion Nathan which expired on
October 31 2009. North Adelaide Football Club accepts that the SANFL and Lion Nathan agreed to a 12 month extension to the original Beer Agreement Sponsorship ending 31st October 2010.
•At all times Coopers Brewery and Lion Nathan have acted in good faith.

The Club will make no further comment on this matter.

A re-reading of this thread shows that nickname and one or two others were absolutely spot on all the way.

We've lost the fact that we were the only club to host night games on Friday nights.

Great to see we havent lost the exclusivity of Coopers!

Sincere sympathy goes to Wedgie and will be thinking about this while I enjoy the clean crisp taste of Coopers Clear while watching footy at Coopers Stadium. :)

Wash your mouth out, anyone drinking clear when Pale is on tap should be shot! Clear beers should be for the Mars Bar only! ;)

Interesting to see that the West End deal ran out last year which I wasn't aware of. Who can blame a club for seeking a long term deal froma South Australian business when a Japanese company is only offering 12 months.
I hope it just gets put off for 12 months. Ahh well, more money saved for my next overseas trip if Im drinking beer bought from Dan Murphys at games this year. ;)

A dark day. :(
Speaking of Dark I might have a wonderful..... nah better not.

LOL@Wedgie :)

The right decision though for now - but come on Coopers, put your money where your mouth is and make a play for the whole box and dice, not just one or two clubs

I'll put my hand up as one of those who were spot on! :D
Re-reading the thread also made me realize Booney didn't answer my genuine question on page 2 of the thread, he must have missed it or I missed his reply.
Booney, do they sell Coopers at the Prince of Wales mate?

What kind of operation is James Moore running down there? Who has ever heard of an organisation splashing a huge sponsorship announcement then having to withdraw it because they effectively didn't read the fine print of the outstanding commercial arrangement?

It makes him and the NAFC look like rank amateurs.

Let's hope they follow the rules of the salary cap a bit better. ;)

I don't think the Football Operations Manager would have much to do with the Coopers deal.

Correct, absolutely nothing. :?
You mistaking him for the CEO Glenn Elliott Topsy?
Speaking of being able to read.........

And rest assured that unlike most of the clubs in the SANFL that have been caught cheating North will continue to play within the rules mate. ;)

Do you reckon he is in charge of that? I was always under the impression the CEO had more of the responsibility in regard to that?

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd say the Football Manager would have day-to-day responsibility, then reporting to the CEO?

Agree with day to day running but not so sure in regard to the overall responsibility in regard to contracts and the salary cap. I'm only going off the impressions I've got from the club over a few years and could be completely wrong though. As I understand it a lot of clubs may work differently in regard to these matters too.

I'm amazes at the job James has done in the past but Im probably amazed atthe job all Football Managers do, a very difficult role IMHO.

Luckily I'm just a guy posting on a forum then and not someone pretending to understand the intricate nature of commercial agreements. Like that whole carry on about already being in an agreement and not being able to sign another one at the same time. :D

Nice one Glenn.
