The most intelligent comment of the decade. Footy is an outside sport and so far nobody has developed a decent grass playing surface in a stadium with a roof. What a complete waste of money it would be (Has anyone heard about Water) . If you want a stadium with airconditioning and a roof its called your Lounge Room

For those that think a roof is the be all and end all of a stadium, does that make the MCG an antiquated stadium?

Of course not. Currently, Adelaide needs to redevelop a stadium. At the moment, Adelaide Oval is the preferred site. The plans look great (and the northen end can be done at a later stage ala the Gabba and the Brisbane Lions administration building - which was removed 3-4 years after the major rebuilding of the ground). Adelaide Oval, if managed correctly, can be the great multi-purpose city stadium people crave for.

At the end of the day, you won't be able to satisfy everyone though - look at the tramline extension (everyone wanted it in the '90's, then when the extension got done everyone complained about it).

Sorry???

I don't really like AAMI at the moment but I agree it kind of does the job, the real issue facing both codes is moving into the future. The State Government can not be expected to fund improvements to two sporting stadiums. If the small amount of money available is shared then both stadiums will fall even further behind. If it doesn't happen now it will in about 10 years time when both organisations desperately need funding for their respective venues and there is no government support.

I don’t think there is a need for a roof. After all a fair few of the seats will be undercover anyway and it could be a bit restricting and out dated in 20 years time. It will be much easier to do upgrades to Adelaide Oval without a roof.

I should say I am a Liberal voter but I think a move to Adelaide Oval is really the right way to go looking into the future.

I dont recall everyone wanting an extension to the tramline in the 90's. There was some talk about extending it to North Adelaide and, IIRC, nobody gave a stuff. I dont recall any talk about it going down Port Road
