Sad to see it go from the ABC, but overall I think it's a good thing for the competition, as a lot of clubs are struggling financially. When you add in the Crows and Port reserves to the equation, it should help the comp as a whole. As the saying goes...."the only constant is change".

.....
The ABC has been the SANFL's sole television broadcaster since 1991

I keep emailing the journalists involved after each time they print this and they keep getting it wrong

They have said this at least 10 times in the Advertiser/Sunday Mail in the last few years. I guess it is easier just to copy what the last article said rather than to research it yourself!

Channel 9 telecast the SANFL up to 1992.

I think it’s a nice little harmless example of how mistakes can become facts (and how history can be changed) just due to laziness.

I think this TV deal should be good for the SANFL and will hopefully bring a new level of sponsorship dollars in not just for the league (IGA) but the individual teams too.

While the ABC coverage was ok if you had the mute button on, it's good to see the league getting the extra exposure that this will bring.

I thought 7mate was available pretty much everywhere... the freeview website has it in Spencer Gulf, Remote and Central and the TV guide for Port Lincoln shows 7mate on channel 73.

I caught the tail end of an interview or news story on 891 yesterday.

I missed out on the particulars of the interviewees, so strictly FWIW, I think a senior member from one of the northern country council zones (Northern Areas or Clare and Gilbert Valleys) was concerned about missing out on coverage. A diplomatic "a majority of South Australians will get coverage..." was the response from the person supposedly in the know.

If anyone heard it fully and has more of a clue I'd be interested to know.

I'm looking forward to it, even though the ABCs love affair with terrible camera shots improved in the last 5 years the only couple of times I tuned in last year I got bombarded with talk about ties and the weather on the moon so I'm looking forward to a change.

I have just checked and here in Ceduna we get Seven Mate Central so it's not definite whether we will get coverage?

I am going to fire off some letters and see if any action can occur??

Compare it to now in 12 months time and most will see a much more polished coverage which should rub off across the board. I also believe we should see sweeping changes to the current commentators. Long overdue for a better promotion of the competition.

If the fans continue to attend games, then this is good.

If not, then the coverage won't help a bit.

As a sponsor, I'd want to see some return on my investment. So that means ratings and families at the grounds, so a good year needs to pass to see if this and the intro of the Cows is the panacea to the leagues woes

You talking radio or TV?

The likes of Neil Cross, Kym Morgan and Chris Kendall did a fine job in my opinion but channel 7 will run with their own crew. Some of the names I've heard that are in the mix will be interesting to see how they go with the SANFL...

If radio, who do you suggest they get and replace and what are your suggestions for 'better promotion' of the League?

Not gonna get that from Channel 7. The Foxtel Cup commentators talk endlessly about the AFL - I suspect Channel 7 commentators will do the same, even in the unlikely event that they cover matches not featuring an AFL reserves team.

Fair enough.

Actually, FWIW, I watched a few League Championship Cup matches on the PC last year using a "Centre-cut" add-on filter. It knocked the commentary down to almost inaudible, leaving the ambient stadium sounds in stereo, very effective. Would be nice if it came as standard in tellies. :D

C'mon get real guys exposure to who I reckon the SANFL diehards will watch some of the telecasts. Most Aussie rules fans are one eyed AFL followers so this reserves concept is only part of the plan. AFL infiltration into every league in Australia and this is only the first small step for total domination. The SANFL might end up like the WAFL and the VFL totally FAARKED I hope not.

THAT IS THE MILLION DOLLAR ??????????????????

If I was a sponsor I wouldn't give a rats arse with how many families were at the game. Its purely down to ratings and in fact the more people who stay at home and watch it on TV the better.
