WHO WILL WALK IF - Crows/Port Reserves discussion

All discussions to do with the SANFL

I can see there may be a few good things come out of AFL reserves sides in our competition, but ultimately the integrity of the competition will suffer and therefore unless it is an absolute hopeless situation we shouldn't let AFL Reserves teams in to participate in league footy.

I don't see why the Crows and Power don't just join the VFL.

Last night Keith Thomas was confident the afl license discussion would have an outcome this year. Then debate would turn to the afl reserves team. He believes all port Afl players should be aligned to the magpies (as probably stated before).

They've already plunged a dagger into the heart of this competition once.
Are we all going to sit on our hands and let them do it again?

Definitely should do something about it and before it's too late. At the very least clearly voice our feelings and make known our disapproval as supporters of the SANFL. This should be done as a matter of priority and as a matter of urgency by the sound of things.

Let The Maggies go, they have no choice anyway, their big brother determines what happens to them. An 8 team SANFL is the only outcome!

Happy to let them go. Not happy to let them stay in the SANFL league competition as the Power's reserves team.

Don't understand this obsession with simply shunting Port and the Crows off to the VFL. Sydney don't play in the VFL, Brisbane don't play in the VFL. Victorian clubs play in the VFL, it's not an AFL Reserves competition.

Its very simple, Port Adelaide players that are paid by Port Adelaide, play for Port Adelaide.

What the Crows do, I don't care.

Most SANFL people I suspect would welcome the continued presence of Port Magpies in the SANFL if they're not a puppet for Port Power.

Considering this is not the case, I know most SANFL people do not want anything to do with the Port Magpies.

What Port Power decides to do with the Port Magpies is a matter for Port and the AFL ... Port never wanted an entity in the SANFL when they first yearned to join the AFL and also when they won the licence in the mid 90's.

The SANFL competition doesn't want or need you so you now have your wish ... take it with both hands.

Yep time for the Magpies to die completely.
Port and Crows will have a reserves side in the SANFL eventually, when this happens Port must be forced to remove all use of the Magpies name and colours, they must also withdraw their other sides out of the SANFL, then we can re- distribute their zone. Same for Sturt if they become the Crows reserves

Absolutely Not! It's our name, our colours and our zone. Keith Thomas has already stated all PAFC players will be aligned to Alberton, either playing in the AFL side or our SANFL side.

In fact if the PAFC chooses to, the already has a ready made Reserves side for the younger/development players to fall back to. It's called the RESERVES.

With so much Black and White Memorabilia and images demonstrating decades of success displayed around the club/changerooms, it will be good for the indoctrination of the players to remain as the Magpies.

It puts the PAFC in a unique position among AFL clubs, with an AFL side, an SANFL side, Reserves and Junior development all under the same banner. This advantage will be maximised for the benefit of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

why must Port be forced to remove all use of the Magpies name and colours? That's just stupid for the sake of being stupid

i think what you are failing to realise is, most of the people posting in this topic couldnt give a stuff about the benefit to the port adelaide football club, myself included, particularly if they perceive that benefit to come at the detriment of their sanfl club, or of the sanfl in general. why should we put YOUR club before ours? why should we put YOUR club before our league as a whole?

personally, port adelaide can go take a flying ****. they want a reserves side? good on them, but they can find somewhere else to play them, as i dont believe it should be in MY league. in MY league, all of the teams are trying to win the premiership each year. we dont need some abortion of a side just playing games to get fitness into players for a completely different competition. we dont even have the same rules as the AFL, would they then start demanding we use the same rules, and the same interpretations so port adelaide can get further advantages? **** that for a joke.

despite my above, i dont wish either adelaide afl side any ill will. i just done see why my side, or the league they play in should be compromised for their benefit. and so far, i havent seen a single argument to change that. all it has been is that it will benefit port and the crows. sorry but i dont care. what would benefit the sanfl and its clubs? not having afl reserves would benefit it more than having them would.

If the PAFC choose to have an AFL Reserves side and want to call it the Magpies - as long as it is in another comp or at worst the SANFL Reserves Comp playing against essentially kids and fringe players then I don't care what they call themselves!

The big issue will be seeing if the PAFC try to run an AFL team, an AFL reserves team (regardless of what comp it is in) as well as the Magpies SANFL League Team, SANFL Rserves Team and U'18's and 16's which is being "mooted" by some at Port as a viable option??? It surely cannot afford to add another "team" after all the hand outs and "manipluation" of the 1 club set up to date?

Surely it is the Magpies out of the current 9 team comp and with that goes the ressies, 18's and 16's.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Well said. This pretty much sums up my attitude. The Crows and probably more so the Power seem to think the SANFL is their 'play thing' that should fall into line purely to benefit AFL clubs. The risk of adverse affects on the SANFL from allowing Crows/Power to have reserves side far far far outweighs the benefits

Let the AFL sides play in the SANFL reserves only otherwise tell them to look for another option interstate which will cost them more $$$$

You guys are in dreamland down there.
Dont forget all the other clubs have a vote on this and there is no way on Earth they will allow Port to field an AFL reserve side in the SANFL and let the Magpies stay alive.
