Final score @ Thebarton:

Eagles 13.10.88
Glenelg 12.13.85

Christian Bock received a holding on free kick 25m out from goal in time on of the final quarter and converted successfully to put the Eagles in front for the first time since kicking the first behind of the game. Siren went as the umpire threw the ball up in the middle of the ground for the restart after the goal.

From memory the quarter-by-quarter scores were something like:

Eagles 2.2.14 3.3.21 8.7.55 13.10.88
Glenelg 7.3.45 9.9.63 11.10.76 12.13.85

I can't comment on the strength of Glenelg, but Powell, Cicolella and Shirley only played the second half, Grocke didn't play, Parry spent the first half either at full-forward or on the bench - only appearing in ruck in the second half, Greiger was at full forward and ruck in the first half before going to the back line in the second half. It's fair to say the Eagles were experimenting in the first half and went back to something that appeared closer to their normal team in the second half. The only injury I noticed was Jimmy Toumpas with what appeared to be a shoulder or bicep injury.

Great to have footy back.

Made the trip to Alberton, Port looked sharp, strong and quick. Cockshell looked fit and strong and will be good for the Magpies this year. Wilson looked good and will be a force this year.Harder looked very good too.

West, didnt play all their best players in the one team, but if they dish that up each week we are in for a long year. We looked slow, disinterested and weak. So many errors and no cohession. Honestly couldnt give one possitive from today (I didnt see any injuries may be it).

Only a trial so maybe I am being a little harsh, but god I hope they improve next week.

We were the inverse of the eagles all our decent players on at the start of the game our 2nd stringers at the end. By halfway through the third Mules, Rudolph, Allen and Davenport all on ice. Several players still out Butten, Tenace, McMahon, Holmes and Milne. Good to see our best is good enough but the last half showed us the things we need to work on.

Both clubs would be happy with what they saw today for a trial game.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Eagles vs Glenelg. Both coaches can take positives but it seems their best line-ups never faced off against each other, playing in different halves.
For the Eagles - Rowntree and Sam Martyn were their best (also having the most playing time). Crows listed Cameron Ellis-Yolmen looks very good- will be a tough player to match up being a 191 cm midfielder or forward. Key recruit Eddy was serviceable, but only as much as his look-alike Treeby 2011 version.
