Hopefully Sturt do another "8 in a row" so Port can avoid it.

Will never happen again to any club as they couldn't survive. For Sturt to do that bounce back and play in a GF then win a flag in 02 after nearly folding in 1995 and now with the prospect of having an opportunity to buy back the premises at Unley is an amazing effort that should go down as the greatest turnaround by any club and will never be repeated.

Having a look at the SANFL site, here is number of times AFL players were in the best players the first 8 rounds

Round 1 - None
Round 2 - Schmidt 3rd best
Round 3 - Bye
Round 4 - Schmidt 1st best
Round 5 - None
Round 6 - None
Round 7 - Lobbe 7th best
Round 8 - None

To me they didnt have a huge benefit to the team. We got little from Davenport (who seemed disinterested), Pettigrew (maybe a little harsh as he was ok), Moran (left half way through the year), Lobbe (couldnt get near the ball then got a Power call up, started the year late due to injury) or Motlop (cue OTR). Newton was injured for most of the year. Webb was ok.

You called! North still can't believe it's luck that another club could pay the money they did to buy a dud! All clubs recruit duds from other clubs but not at the price $$$ West payed for Motlop!

With decisions like that you can see why West folded in the second half of 2011 and no-one rates Collins as coach.

You took your bloody time...12 minutes

I dont think West paid the fee, I think the Power did. Our demise did begin when Motlop arrived, not that I am saying he contibuted to it but it was a coincedence.

I think you will find West did pay the fee as Motlop was a North player before being AFL listed. In any case it doesn't much matter now we have pocketed the $$$.

Broadlatch, you have sealed your own fate, even with AFL players in the side, the defensive game which Westies have played since the arrival of Collins is useless.

I remember a friend of mine saying at a Westies Night Game at Richmond, that the ground staff could save a packet of money if they turned off the lights at whatever end they (Westies) were going to for the quarter cause they didn't want to play at that end. ;)

Collo must go, get those junior coaches back on song because they were excellent with many finals appearances in their grades and constantly produced AFL recruits.

I have said elsewhere the arrival of Rubbers is a god send for them, he is a good coach, works well with other coaches in getting the best out of Junior talent, I personally think the senior players he had at the Bay played well during the season, but for some reason couldn't put it together during finals, that fault should have been left at the feet of the players not the coach.

Funnily enough the new Bays coach has, one way or another.

Cheers,

I wasnt debating "negative game style" I was talking about how our AFL listed players went early (and thoughtout) the season.

The night game you were talking about personally I dont think negative football was intended to be played or the reason we lost, it was that Norwood was just way too good for us that night.
