One only had to look at the crowds around the huddles to see which club had the most supporters there. It helped that we had Massies first game and our first game against Mouse.

Easy a 50:50 split.

You have got to be kidding. It was at least an 80/20 split North's way. The radio commentators made that comment. Bay supporters have often commented to me how well North travel to the Bay yet they never travel to Prospect.

Nup just rechecked photos on SL.org Glenelg easily out number North supporters on the NE and NW sides of the oval, opposite occurs on SE and SW. Stand by 50:50 split. Same occured on ANZAC Day last year too.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I hardly go to Elizabeth because it has 4 syllables. I usually limit my football visiting suburbs to 3 syllables or less.
And to prove my point I didn't go to games at Victor Harbor regularly either.

Understandable that the Big Four (tm) should command the largest travelling support. ;)

I think that does show Centrals fans travel fairly well. How often are we told Centrals don't have the supporter base of the 4 sides ranked 1-4 there?

It's not hard to pick holes in that table though since those are the total crowd averages, not just the number of dogs fans rocking up which is what I meant.

The overall crowds would have to be boosted this year with both AFL clubs not going so good this year and money getting tighter for families so not wanting to inflated AFL prices choose to go to SANFL games.

I think as an example port's away figures may be boosted by a greater home teams supporter attendance. If port are struggling, opposition supporters want to see their team beat them. on the gates the attendants have the number counters, it would be interesting if for a year they counted supporters from each club separately (as graham1) mentioned. It would be pretty easy to do.

Update ... As at end of Rd 20

Getting closer.... another round over 11K across the 4 games

Total 11,225

So Best Crowd Averages as et end of Rd 20
- 2011 - 3,280 per game
- 2001 - 3,253 per game
- 2002 - 3,195* per game
- 2010 - 3,115 per game
- 2008 - 3,090 per game
- 2003 - 2,993 per game

To have the best minor round crowds this century
we need 23,255 to attend the last 12 games

Average just 1938 per match

With 4 night games scheduled and 8 teams still in contention only some appalling weather over the last 3 rounds can stop the record being broken.

I would concur, given the West v Glenelg game under Friday Night Lights got just 2,419 two weeks ago when West were still in the hunt and in good weather.

On this promise I went to Elizabeth Oval for the first time since 1963 and left sorely disappointed. :D
