They may travel on occassions, but not the majority and not to all grounds. At Noarlunga, about 350 - 500 would attend on average.

I reckon only 500 or so turn up to Unley also
And to beenreal's comment, your members didn't know that you would finish 2nd bottom, let's see if they can back it up this year? Doubt it.

So Port supporters don't travel to other grounds? That's why the SANFL figures show Port Adelaide AWAY attendances as 2nd. Again, despite finishing 8th.

And current membership is approaching 2500. I'd be surprised if any other clubs achieve that total for the entire year.

Still a far cry from 7000 'loyal' supporters. Surely with that sort of membership you attendances should be number 1 for home AND away. Isn't it a little embarrassing that you had almost 4 times the members of most other teams yet couldn't acheive being no.1 for crowds?
As far as travelling is concerned, 500 opposition supporters is pretty big at Unley. Most teams get about 250 (besides Norwood) but it was being made to sound like every supporter that attends your home games also attends away games which we all know is bollocks. That said, it would be the most difficult thing in the world to try and make a Port supporter not believe his own hype!

Means absolutely nothing about whether those numbers are Port fans or not. Could just as easily be home fans turning up in greater numbers to watch their side beat up on Port. Need to also look at scheduling and compare time slot/venue averages and see whether Port are increasing crowds compared to other side or not. If Port play Norwood at Cooper's on a friday night they'll get a crowd. If Port though have to play South at Noarlunga twice in the one year they'll have two smaller crowds. What I can say is that Port are very poorly supported at Elizabeth these days. Used to get far more travelling there given so many people in Salisbury are Port supporters and Elizabeth is closer for most of them than Alberton. Absolutely more Dogs fans go to Alberton than Port fans go to Elizabeth these days.

As someone said, get a passout after the SANFL game, sell it to an AFL fan walking in for $10, you make a profit from Port and they lose a paying customer :D

I was actually already planning on doing something similar to that. I was going to get a passout as soon as Norwood beat the pants off Port; and then give it and my ticket to my husband, who's a Power supporter (goodness knows why), so he can go in and watch the AFL game.

I actually agree with this.

In these uncertain times its best to hold the finals that provide the best financial benefit. If/when the AO upgrade is complete then these matches will be at footy park anyway so we may as well get used to it.

Getting to footy park for finals is just like getting to a suburban ground, only parking is much better particularly when its free.

One was the playing facilities and conditions and the ease with which we can put it together, and another was the financial benefit we get from playing at AAMI Stadium, which we own

Cant agee, you cant tell me the playing conditions and facilites are better at AAMI that AO. Surely getting more people to the footy at AO is more beneficial (forget the $) to the league than getting less numbers to AAMI, just work the numbers with the SACA so it makes it viable for both parties.

24k at AAMi v 38k at AO, surely the number speak for themselves?

Seems a stand off between the parties IMO, surely if all footy is going to be at AO after 2014 playing the SANFL finals there would be a great test for the AO in prepartion?

I dont know anything about the new AO, but do remember when i was a CDFC official in 2003, that Adelaide Oval was dreaded by all 9 SANFL clubs for its poor change room facilites and size.

Especially during double headers where the teams trying to share the change rooms was an absolute nightmare.

That's not really an apples for apples comparison though I don't think ... in 2008 you had Norwood, Port, Sturt, Central and then Norwood, Sturt, Central, Glenelg.

Close to the ideal grouping for crowd pulling*, particularly when the old rivals go head to head, both of whom were/are success starved.

Don't get me wrong I still think AO would attract bigger crowds, but I don't think the gap would be as massive as that.

2008

Central/Sturt
Port/Norwood

2010

2008 was a good year however not a lot different to 2010 certainly not 14k worth, probably confirms the fact you will get neutrals to AO but less likely AAMI

Other factors to take into consideration would be

-weather
-crows/power were they still playing finals or not
-whats on in Adelaide ala Slowdowns, royal show, bay to city etc etc.

I know I'll be unpopular for this from some (it's not intended as a criticism), but the two Norwood games in the finals of 2008 would have rated the pants off the 2 Eagles games in those two years.

Largely because Norwood had been absent from the finals for 6 years and the Eagles had hardly missed a finals series in 10+ years .. Throw Port into the mix on top of that and it adds plenty again.

I agree AO probably gets more neutrals, but I still dont think the comparison between the 2 sets of figures is necessarily straight forward.

Although I did not make a conclusion from that table, I think it's a sure bet that the campaign to get all football to Adelaide Oval has turned off a considerable portion of fans away from Football Park.

whufc, count West out of your comment about the Adelaide Oval change rooms.

They were better than most teams visitor's rooms and about the same for a double-header.
