For certain he knew the answer already and was grandstanding for all to see....... loves the club my ass!!
I'd say Mickan would love them though.....
That said, as a club hierarchy they took a serious shot at a flag with Collo, footy dept. and going over the cap, but now that's gone. That's why they needed to get Mickan in to build on and be someone the club could have rallied around.
HUGE mistake :o

Collins question has nothing to do with who should be coaching the club.

Bizarre that he'd ask that question in such a public forum given the recent publicity about their financial position.

Why is that?

To clarify the question he asked. It was why weren't we informed that the super payments hadn't been paid for the previous amount of time.

As was raised at the meeting many workers football and bar, have life insurance and TPD insurance with their super fund and some workers lost their cover due to no payment being made into their super account for 13 months. This was the first that many people knew that their super wasn't being paid. The lack of communication about it was terrible.

Many people who work(ed) there, would've been happy to have the payments delayed for the club to get other things in order had they been informed about it prior to it happening.

It was the perfect place to ask the question IMO.

I'd be doing more than asking questions

The ATO will take action against them if someone complains

To make things a bit clearer, the auditor brought up the fact about late superannuation payments. A question was then asked from the floor if all super payments were up to date. The reply from Sperling was 'we did catch up, but we've fallen behind by 80,000 again'. I do believe, once again, the employees who were present only just found this out at the AGM (collins included). Collins then asked the question about the lack of communication to all employees. As a member, an employee, Collins had every right to do it right there and then as clearly he had not been told of these circumstances, both to start off with, and then again when the club has fallen behind again in payouts

That is good background info CK ... thanks.

It does put Collins' question into some perspective.

Trying to get some devine intervention?

FROM THE COACH:

On the 23rd of February the West Adelaide Football Team will become a labour force of reckoning. Our goal is to help renovate and rejuvenate the old Richmond Baptist Church and Community Centre. This old church is in need of our community help.

Why this project?
...
Last year I was recommended to meet Elliot Keane. He is the leader of this church community. In reflecting on our first meeting I was surprised by his youthful appearance and his sharp fashion awareness. As we spoke I was greatly impressed by his leadership and vision for the broader community.

In a voluntary role Elliot has become a very significant person at our club. His guidance and support to players and staff has been outstanding. In the last twelve months Elliot along with support of his wife Sarah has started Mothers Group Meetings and my favourite, coffee and dessert evenings. Their energy and passion for the community seems endless.

It is with great support of players, coaches and staff that we want to help Elliot and Sarah achieve their goal in supporting the development of community facilities for all to benefit from.

Already significant planning has occurred. Players with specific trade skills have become project managers. Builders (Scott Bicknell and Dustin Head), Plumbers (Aaron Anderson and Dean Poynton), Landscaping (Ryan Anderson and Shane Birss), Cabinet Maker (Ben Watkins) and they have a labour force of 50 players and staff.

How can you help?

This project has a zero budget. Understanding the significance of the above statement we are sourcing financial donations, donations of materials, goods and services in specific areas of need.

• Timber to build a pergola and new hallway
• Sand, soil, pavers and artificial grass for landscaping
• Child-proof fencing for an outdoor play area
• Paint, brushes and rollers
• A new electric hot water service
• Rubbish removal
• And possibly a lot more we haven’t thought off!

Significant preparation has already begun for the date of the 23rd of February but we cannot do it without support. Please assist us.

Our mission is to renovate this old church into a vibrant community centre for all to use. Please contact Elliot Keane directly if you can help:

elliot@richmond.org.au or mobile 0408 180 284

Elliot and I are happy to meet for any further enquiries.

All are welcome on the day.

Regards,

Andrew Collins

With only $30k in cash and a secured debt of $80k, they are probably insolvent

Financial Statements: We apologise for the delay however we have been waiting for documentation in regards to the extension of our credit facilities before our auditors could complete the audit.

West Adelaide Footballers Club - no sponsorship in 2012 whereas $210k last year - was that a one off last year? Plus the loan from them has increased by $114k
Admin costs up $176k
Nett assets $76k

Look at Note 9 and the Auditors Report

I'm no financial expert but I found it concerning from a Westies perspective is that their net current assets is $76 K down from over $600 K last year.

So is it true that they are only an $80 K loss away from being insolvent?? That is, what they owe will be greater than their assets?

Can't believe Westies spent $600 K more than us in running their club, where is the money going??

They do itemise their expenditure and income better than us though.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

If I was involved at West, I'd be tracking down Shane "Chesty" Reardon, ex Woodville player/ Eagles & South assistant to Ronny up until recently.
He is possibly 2IC at the ATO now and would have a unique perspective/sympathy on these problems.... just a thought!

I think that may have something to do with a sponsor paying their sponsorship 12 months in advance.

Article on Adelaide Now about Westies asking fans to comeback to watch games to help the club.

Well it is one of the main reasons people aren't turning up. North had some shocking crowds during Healy's 2nd year. Many refused to attend games because of the terrible game plan.

Haven't had a chance to confirm this yet, but I was told today that legislation has been altered so that Superannuation must now be paid to employee member's funds on a monthly basis .. Furthermore I believe that payment to the applicable fund must be shown on an employee's payslip from the date the new legislation commences (01/07/2013).
