I have only just plucked up the motivation to post. Am gutted - not because we lost but because we were a rabble.

North were really good though and deserve to be in the prelim. I hope they win a Norwood West GF will not be a good look for a game that gets attention accross the country.

End of an era? Definitely the end of the Gowans era. They have been great for us and a pity to see them go out like that.

"We are a club and we will go on". Time now to live up to the words of our departed 2000 captain.
We used to be good :-(

Listening to Roy last night on AA, Id be surprised if he will be there next year.

Seems like the dogs might need a rebuild of sorts so he may feel its time for a coach that can commit to a 2-3 year contract.

Must admit I am a bit disappointed Centrals are out because all year we have been thinking about a Norwood v Centrals GF and I know the Club have focused and planned around that. Would have been nice to be able to pay back the Dogs for the 2010 GF.
Having said that congrats to North for an amazing display and a brilliant win. Momentum is a marvelous thing in football and catching West on a low might just see the Roosters in a GF.

Love em or hate em we have to acknowledge a magnificent 12 years by the Dogs, 9 flags from 12 consecutive GFs is a record that will probably never be matched. I believe Centrals will be back in contention next year and this year may be the spur that gets them going again.
Not losing any sleep over their loss though
Goodbye Gowans Boys the ones we love to hate but every Club would have given their eye teeth to have them in their side.

How many that played league yesterday can play Ressies this week?
Big chance of a flag in the Ressies.
Would write the Dogs off yet, plenty of talent in the two's and they have that knack of picking up decent players from interstate, still reckon they will play finals next year.
Probably the only area of concern would be with the juniors, got a mate playing u18's down there and gone to watch him several times, have a couple decent types but overall the side was very ordinary

robranisgod wrote:In retrospect Central this year remind me very much of Port in 1991. In 1991 all season I thought that Port, who had won the previous 3 premierships were going to be our biggest danger, but they were killed in the Elimination Final by West. Everyone thought it was the end of Port but instead they dominated 1992 and went on to win flags in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999. I am not saying that Central are about to go on another premiership winning spree, but I am going to be very wary of the bulldogs, because of their outstanding culture, in the next year or two.

I know I'm getting a bit side tracked here but, how I remember that era of Port's was the rest of the SANFL was decimated by the Crows entry to the AFL, and while Port provided their fair share of AFL talent for the era, they were also retaining many, on the understanding that Port's AFL entry was imminent. If Central were being touted as a prospect to field its own AFL team in the next 3 or so years, borderline hopefuls and strong prospective talent would swell their ranks in anticipation, and most would resist a premature invitation to join existing AFL clubs.
The two scenarios (ie Port 1991 and Dogs now) are incomparable I think.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

He's just checked out of hospital in New Zealand. Apparently he's okay, but the eel didn't make it.
