Still no james Bennett. Very, very surprising.

Agreed he has been fantastic for the Roosters this year but perhaps the selectors think they already have enough midfield strength in the existing squad.

Yeah fair enough. Can't argue against some of the midfielders picked. Is Shirley still in the squad?

Ha ha, good point. I think he is in the squad for his experience and has been playing at half back for the Eagles as well.

Shirley has been very good the last few weeks. Never heard of Bennett. Will have to look out for him when we next play North.

Really? Surely you jest?

The Rooster in jumper number 1 has been in great form all year for North and when they pumped the Eagles at Prospect the other week, he had 34 touches and 7 clearances...

I found it pretty difficult to pick the side from the squad, but have considered the smaller venue with Gliderol Stadium and haven't picked players currently not playing due to injury.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA:

FF: J.Clayton (PA) - M.Wundke (SA) - T.McIntyre (ST)

HF: A.Grocke (EA) - R.Kirkby (GL) - S.Gray (PA)

CL: L.Jarrad (VC) (EA) - J.Cross (NA) - L.Ryswyk (NA)

HB: E.Sansbury (CD) - T.Collier (CD) - D.Caire (WA)

FB: S.Rudolph (GL) - B.Greiger (EA) - P.Thomas (C) (CD)

1R: C.Parry (EA) - J.Boyd (CD) - N.Liddle (SA)

INT: J.Meiklejohn (PA) - B.Zorzi (NW) - J.Schiller (CD) - N.Batsanis (NW)

I find it amazing that Norwood are top and undefeated and only have 2 players in the side, both on the bench.
Does this show that they are a good TEAM, not a team of GOOD players?

Yeah, I was going to have Brett Zorzi line up in a back pocket (he has been playing more in the backlines this year, as you would know) but thought there was enough height down there with Sam Rudoplh and Ben Greiger. Zorzi's experience should see him in the final 22.

I thought about starting Batsanis in the midfield but there is a fair bit of strength in their already so thought he would be part of the rotation. I didn't include Tim Webber as he hurt his ankle last week and I'm not sure how long he'll be out for as I haven't heard the prognosis.

Luke Jericho was probably the unlucky one to miss but I thought with Wundke and Kirkby in the forward line already, there needed to be some smaller crumbers at the feet, although Jericho is good at ground level also. I wouldn't be surprised if he does make the final 22 though.

With Josh Donohue, I just felt that there are small forwards in the likes of Sam Gray and Tim McIntyre, who can play both tall and small, who are probably the better option. With the quality of midfielders in the squad, there will be plenty of options for them to play as resting small forwards as well. I think your comment about Norwood as a team is quite accurate by the way.

Some quality players in that line up with a few ex AFL boys in the likes of Medhurst, Davis, Dodd, Thornton, Johnson, Moss, Wulff and former Glenelg aligned Crow Aiden Parker.

I know it is ignorant of me. I'm bad with opposition names unless they are well known (i.e. Allan/Alleway etc.) or generally take notice of most of the players from the top teams. Use to know almost all and go and watch a few games of North which Eagles weren't involved in when they were at the top of the ladder a few years ago. I wonder if some umpires are the same with the Magarey votes?

Looking at the up to date stats, Norwood only have 2 players featured in the 4 'top 10' categories.

Fair enough explanation, I take back the tool comment but your reply did read a touch arrogant and like a "who cares" type response. Re your comment about the umpires and the MM - you are not inferring what I think you are?

I think some players can play exactly the same for 3 seasons in a row and it might not be until the 3rd season they get recognised with votes. If you're thinking I'm saying Allan gets votes when he doesn't deserve, that's not the case. Rate him highly and think along with Mckenzie and Thomas he is at the top of players in the SANFL and has been for a long time.

Not I wasn't inferring Allan as such but name players are generally the best players and they should pick up the votes. Going against that arguement however is Allan came from Vic to North in 2007 and won his first MM and he would not have been known to umpires at least in the first part of the season but he certainly was by the half way mark!

James Allan has made himself "unavailable" for the State Game. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl ... 6360115231
This is the problem with these games. In a selfish way I'd like the Central players to make themselves unavailable. Of course a lot of players still view state games as an honour and a career high, but from a supporters perspective I wouldn't care if we had no players selected.

I think the "wear and tear" on Allan is a big factor and you can't blame him or North for being cautious given we are still some sort of chance to play finals given we are only at Round 9. The same applies to Alleway withdrawing - the reason was cited as "injury" and whilst he has had an extended break due to suspension I can tell you he struggles each week with his on going ankle issues so again can't blame him wanting just to concentrate on club football.

Not sure on current form that Clint is a huge loss although on his day he is the best CHF in the League and has been BOG in the past at State level.

The loss of Allan - not so sure how much of a loss he will be? Most opposition pundits don't rate him as he is seen as an outside receiver who gets cheap easy kicks so Stephen "No Idea" Rowe and his co-selectors shouldn't have too many issues finding a more suitable replacement. Plus the last time Jimmy played for SA he started on the bench and spent most of the first half getting cold but when he came on eventually he picked up his normal truck load of possies.
