I thought it was just held so that Foxtel had a game to broadcast as a filler between the afternoon & evening AFL games on a Saturday. With the extra AFL game each week next season, I think the Foxtel Cup will not be needed by them.

Using the Reserve Bank inflation calculator http://www.rba.gov.au/calculator/ , that works out to $236,600 and $99,372 respectively for last year (the last year you can calculate to).
Rounding off those figures, to say $225,000 and $100,000, I reckon that sort of money should be a pre-requisite for the top three sides to take the competition seriously. $40,000 is a pittance.

If that was the prize money on offer then no SANFL team will be declining the invitation.......
Centrals would be able to afford new light globes![]()

IMO State of Origin and Foxtel Cup is no comparison.UpForGrabs wrote:As an East Perth fan in the WAFL - I was actually a big fan of the Foxtel Cup... we performed better there than we did in the WAFL this year!
For those asking what are the benefits of SANFL teams participating... there aren't really any.
But then again, there weren't really any benefits to State of Origin footy back in the day other than pride, and you guys went damn well with that.
I'll watch next year's matches and enjoy them, even if East Perth are nowhere to be seen.

Pseudo wrote:It bothers me that the SANFL draw has become dependent on the Foxtel Cup draw. If this is likely to be the case in future years then perhaps it would be best for the SANFL as a whole to tell Foxtel/AFL/etc to jam their cup. The SANFL (and WAFL, VFL) premiership seasons are more important and the Foxtel Cup should be worked around these, not the other way around.

Shouldn't cost too much to hire a Mini Bus in that case then?
