The ground was in such a bad state that 31 goals were scored in the league game and 25 in the ressies.
More than happy to play in such terrible conditions when you get a shootout like we did yesterday

The ground was in such bad state because of the rain we had during the week and 6 games were played on it in less than 24 hours

Under 14's, Under 15's and under 16's Friday night
Seconds, League and Under 18's Saturday

I warned it would be a bog and it was, wasn't hard to figure out why!

Fortunately the groundsmen have 3 weeks before the next game to repair it

Cheers,

For those that want the crowd figure...PhilH just said on the 5aa SANFL Show that it was 3919.

Given the weather we had this week and the anticipated damage to the ground, should the u/14's, u/15's and u/16's have been shifted somewhere else to protect the surface for the main games on the Saturday?

Not bad ... would have got more if the 'legs had used their heads and called the Crazy Horse and had mud wrestling as half time entertainment.

Spot on Wedgie what is our great game coming to.

Have to agree.

A tackle like that would have been considered a strong part of our game up until probably this year. No one was injured and yet it caused a report.

The umpiring today was abysmal, albeit it had no impact on the game.

How come North have had the same umpire four weeks in a row. He is horrible. Actually the one time he seemed to really impact North badly though was the one game North won recently against Glenelg. He cost North at least five goals that day.

I suspect Walker will get a game, but that says more about the interpretation of the rule, than it does about the severity of the tackle. That said, the tackle, at that time of the play, wasn't overly necessary.

The biggest issue I have with the current Holding The Ball interpretation is that, now, the player who puts his head down and tries to win the ball is the first one disadvantaged by it. Players that try to get the ball with other players around, run the very real risk of being penalised, as a pack forms on top of them. The current interpretation is, in parts, actively punishing the ball player and appears to have some players second guessing their natural instinct to make getting the ball the focus - in case they get pinged, which is plain wrong for the spirit of the game.

If Taylor Walker gets a game the system and rules are a friggin joke.

Maybe they should go back to the old school rules where you werent allowed to tackle and could only bump...........................

wait a sec your not allowed to bump either anymore :?

This will be an interesting case, because it really did look like he had held up the player and then made another conscious effort to sling him.

Agree about the HTB rule in both AFL and SANFL. Problem is umpires wait too long these days for the ball to come out, so we end up with either the ball coming out in a rugby union type of maul, the umpire acts like a an attention-seeking prima donna calling HTB, or else a ball up that takes far too long allowing too many players to get around it. Blow the whistle, grab the ball and get the game going quicker.

A bit of mud??? I know you can't pick the weather but someone at the NFC hasn't got a clue when they allowed 3 junior games to be played on a ground a day before a 3 game SANFL league. Fixture? Walker would be grateful for the bog otherwise Delvins would have been knocked out and he would have a bigger case to answer!

yes, a bit silly, playing all those games on the 1 oval in such a short period of time when lots of rain is forecast.

Fair call about the excessive amount of games which likely could have been reduced, but weve played the game in mud for 100+ years .. Fwiw i was in there on Thursday and it looked a bit chopped up then too.

As for the Walker tackle, i actually agree with CK and reckon he could be in a bit strife

Give Les Burdett a call, he's worked miracles at the Bay ... but true, a little mud never hurt anyone.

When you think back to how the oval used to be, and the year long workout it gets with baseball in the summer, Baz and Gav do a pretty good job i reckon.

Norwalker won because of their structures, far better managed than North's.

Norwood oval gets heavy use all year round ... has been a problem for many, many years.

The Bay would have been the same today if it hadn't been for the assistance of the SACA in preparing the ground for future cricket matches.

Norwood are at Woodville next week so there might be some other mud there after they've relocated the cows for the day ;)

Watching the Channel 7 news, it must have been an extraordinary game for Walker to kick 16 goals and Motlop 15.
