West Coast/Freo Reserves in WAFL proposal

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Looking forward to all the details of the rally, Psuedo.

I reckon the rally organiser should also designate one round of SANFL as a "Black" round, where all supporters attend games wearing black to mourn the cancer that is attacking the SANFL. Imagine 15-20,000 supporters all turning up to games up wearing no club colours per se, just decked out all in black? (maybe Rd 12 when Port has the bye and plays North in the Foxtel Cup - the North fans can wear something to the game that day to signify their discontent on NATIONAL TV).

How many other codes & leagues don't have a league wide reserves competition???
Surely the AFL with the $$$$ could put together some sort of deal for this & then even sell off more games. Then you'dl get another games worth of value for your day out at the AFL & thus leaving the SANFL as it is.
I do know that player lists would need to expand & the like.... Feel free to take this to pieces

Not a bad idea at all, is the North vs Port foxtel cup game a stand alone game. I would head along and wear black (or whatever the decision) is.

Could position yourselfs in a spot where you know the t.v camera will pick everyone. National exposure would be the best way.

Lets do it!
This is what is done in UK when clubs like Torquay, Fulham, Wimbledon, etc. were on the brink of death... Cue JTC

Bring it on - I am prepared to stand side-by-side with Port supporters (magpie version), God am I really saying that ;) to SAVE OUR COMPETITION!!!

If we fail to make a stand soon, then the competition as we know it is in danger of dissolving & there's nothing we can do about it.

John Olsen was a crap Premier & he's quickly becoming a crap SANFL Chief.

As I've read through this thread I was thinking similar to this....we've just had multicultural round (what a roaring success that was  ) so as supporters we decide on a "F**K OFF AFL" Appreciation round, drag along as many friends / family as possible, maybe runthroughs (what are they called ?) for the ABC TV games made by the cheer squad through to the end of year "SANFL for the SANFL", "PISS OFF DEMETRIOU" or whatever......and wear club colours.....buy yourself a Norwood, Centrals, Sturt, Glenelg guernsey and wear it on the terraces and give the AFL the finger.....

.....and I agree with everything Topsy said
"This windfall from the Adelaide Oval decision cannot be turned into a moment when the SANFL sells off the farm to underwrite its lazy league clubs."

I'm softening my stance a bit, at least the Dockers and Eagles have come out and said they support the structure of the WAFL. They're offering 125K per club per year, which is a hell of a lot more money to pump into the league considering we dont have the income streams that the SANFL clubs have.

It's definitely a different structure over here, none of these continuous attacks on the WAFL by the media and AFL club supporters. It's a lot more conciliatory and the WAFL clubs need to vote on it and I trust they'll vote what's best for the continuation of their club's history.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Good ideas but you have to take the fight to the AFL on their own turf and irritate the crap out of them. There's alot of national media exposure during a stand alone Friday night game ;)

The NRL is very similar to the AFL in that unrequired players dont play in a designated reserves comp but in their various state leagues. Pretty sure it works that all NSW teams and the warriors play in the NSWRL, storm and queensland teams play in the QRL. This is then further complicated by each NRL team having a under 20's team that plays in the NRL toyota cup for their development squads. very much a problem that seems to have been caused by the dominant state league expanding to nationwide.

Another rugby example is the Australian Super Rugby Franchises, send their players back to Club Rugby in Sydney or Brisbane. Well the Melbourne Rebels do anyway. Not sure what the Western Force do with their reserves

It is true that the ARU do it as a means to grow the local comps in each city (with the exception of canberra and the brumbies i think) should qualify my original statement by saying that most NRL clubs do have stand alone teams in secondary competitions.

Well csbowes, there will never been a return to the pre AFL days. Sure, we could at least see an increase of the attendances to about 3500 per match, but that's all.

Lets see why. With the crowds compared from 2004-05 to what they are now, you may have expected an increase of coverage in the fish wrap, or on TV. But you don't. It's actually gone backwards in the aforementioned Advertiser; the Football Budget is crap; we have less radio stations covering the matches (not taking away from the fantastic job the two we have now do, a positive there); the ABC don't show the late night replays.

Instead we seem to have more ex-AFL stars on the big radio stations; more AFL coverage in the newspapers; more AFL themed shows and more AFL clout regarding the running of this heritage enriched competition. And when the SANFL seems to forge ahead in terms of popularity, we get the AFL lovers such as Rucci and Fjelstad try to run down our competition by focussing on the negatives - the losses made in 2008 financially; the alleged racial taunts;and now these larger threats that have come up. That's how you get the SANFL into the mainstream media! The negatives.

So, it is high time the SANFL got into the mainstream media for the right reasons, if something like the ideas about a rally/protest could be effected, it may just happen. Someone needs to stand up and promote our league, because as I have outlined, no-one else who is in the big media players such Channel 9/7/Advertiser/5AA/Triple M will.
