what the, norwood played an 8/9 man back line flood all day. it made for absolute crap football.

I understand why they do it because if they play good honest football they cant win so Bassett plays this crap style against teams not use to it as it is their best hope of winning. Absolute boring to watch.

Spot on. But it's not Basssett's aim to entertain - its to win. If he has realised that a super flood will win him games then you'd be crazy not to do it. It seems a successful tactic but is probably the reason why they don't usually kick big scores.

Norwood's game is in some ways centred around defence, because our defence is where we're strongest. But that's totally different from calling it "boring" football to watch. Our game requires us to run & spread from the back line, play on from defensive marks, and run hard on overlap through the centre, aiming to get the ball in quickly. That kid of footy is exciting to watch. We're principally low-scoring because our forward-line isn't as accomplished as our defence.

We're not a 'chipping the ball around sideways' sort of side. That's boring to watch. Similarly, our rucks aren't strong enough for us to have any interest in bottling the ball up and playing a dozens-of-stoppages style.

The idea that if you do anything other than playing a static front 6, a static back 6, and 6 blokes who follow the ball around, you're not really playing "good honest football" and so regardless of your results you are somehow morally infereior, died around 20 years ago.

Could the pa man please give the changes to the teams listed in the budget like they used to? Heaven knows they go on about enough waffle before the game.
Not just yesterday, but for all the finals where all teams listed 24-25 players.
Actually, don't see why this couldn't happen at all the suburban grounds throughout the year too.

Legs deserved their win... similar tactics to St. Kilda (any thoughts).
We were too defensive too early in the 2nd half - no doubt.
That played into their hands, as they were always still just a couple of goals from a momentum shift/run on.

Very proud of OUR PLAYERS throughout the year - no-one gave us a hope of getting this far.
I said in the PREview post that we would struggle in the 2nd half - & so it was.

Congrats to 'Constance' & others, your turn to experience Grand Final Day :)

Bye bye Luke Powell - fantastic clubman & contributor to our club.

Both Lewis (we missed him yesterday) & Parry were the SANFL recruits of the year IMHO.
Parry was fantastic yesterday.

Welsh ??? Hmmmmm... I don't think he was worth it, personally.
Had some good games but too often struggled throughout the year.

Good for the SANFL Crowd wise next week - hopefully 25 K+, I will be there as every year.

To the 'toodle-pips' expressing their schardenfrieder - pfft, as I said 3 weeks ago, finishing 3rd to 8th means the same. Finishing 2nd means you are the best LOSER.

Good Luck to both clubs next week.
Hope to see some of you @ the 'Life van' or in the Lakes Pub.

Enjoy the day ;)

The best Welsh looked was when we had Hentschel, Grocke, himself and two smalls. At other times we were too tall in the forward lines throughout the year and this didn't help him or the others IMO.

Parry was fantastic in the finals, we all knew what he could do at this level. Splitting hairs, but as far as recruits go, Lewis and Greiger were the recruits of the year because I don't reckon too many were expectng too much from them.

Thanks LEH .. I know it probably wont count for much, but I do genuinely feel for you Eagle fans, I know how it feels to have victory stolen like that in a big game.

Luke Powell would be right up there among my favourite non-Norwood players, as others have asked, what's the deal with his future?

Congratulations to the Eagles on a fine year brim full of character ... Whoever won yesterday was always going to be up against it this coming weekend.

Well done to the Legs, great comeback and showed alot of grit not to give up. This final reminded me alot of last years Prelim, with the team leading for nearly all of the game losing by being unable to put their opponents to the sword by missing gettable goals, also both winning coaches were in their first year as senior coaches.

Well done to the Legs yesterday, was expecting they would have come back at us but was hoping they might have left that run a bit later, Bass has done a great job out there this year, something to be said for backing in the talent that you have and just having a go week in week out.

Disappointing to go down like we did yesterday but more than anything in the second half I think the boys just had nothing left in the tank, the run and carry from the first half just dried up, you can look at individual incidents in the second half and say what if but in the end they had nothing left, Norwood did and got the job done.

Don't know about Powelly retiring, the article on Adelaide Now on this morning says he, cica and macca all intending to go on and there was no announcement at the club last night, would think he still has plenty to offer so hope he continues along with the other two.
Trust the process.

I'm still stunned/shocked that we won that game after that pathetic 1st half, Eagles just destroyed us in the 1st half but the 2nd half was a totally different game. Norwood just willed there way to win.The onballers really lifted in the 2nd half and started getting there hands on the footy. Campbell & Gallaher were huge in the 2nd half.
Can’t believe we are in the GF considering where this club was at last season.
Unbelievable what coach can do with the same group of players

Done my anaylsis on the match

ERRORS BY QTRS
NW...16...07...11...07....TOTAL 41
EG....03...06...02...06....TOTAL 17

WWT skill level far superior, but they made some crucial blunders in the last qtr
NW errors were far too many for a team, thier disposal errors abyssMAL at at times

UMPIRING FAVOURED DECISIONS BY QTRS
NW....02...02...01...03...TOTAL 08
EG....04...01....01...01...TOTAL 07

Evened out, EG got them early, NW got them late
For whatever reasons this is a trend often this year, legs get them late and not early

SALTER got a free kick and goal for falling over by himself in the 3rd qtr [EG last goal]
DAVIS got a charity soon after, to even out the decisions

LAST QTR MCKENZIE marks, one ump frantically calls play on, the other calls a mark, in the end the decision was a bounce, it didnt help the EG who were about to attack
LAST QTR RIMMINGTON marks in the back pocket, but it was touched b4 he got to it, you can hear the ump calling it that way. decision cost WWT as NW goaled from the throw in
Both decisions appeared fair, but EG were stiff
Neither decisons went in my stats, as they were fair verdicts

DAWE got a soft free in a centre bounce in the last qtr as well

Did we see the ump in the LAST QTR go to bounce the ball, and then threw it up !!!!

In all the umps helped get WWT to get a lead, the legs got them when it counted in the last qtr
