Youths 'set West Adelaide Football Club alight'
Ken McGregor, Court Reporter From: The Advertiser March 15, 2010 2:14PM
A YOUTH who is charged with setting fire to the West Adelaide Football Club - causing $250,000 damage - smiled and waved as he left the Youth Court court today.
Two Mile End youths, aged 17 and 15, and a Richmond youth, 14, have each been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and theft.
The 14-year-old was also charged with arson over the incident in January this year.
Prosecutors today told the court that the youths had stolen a laptop and cash from the football club before the 14-year-old later returned to City Mazda Stadium and set the clubrooms ablaze.
In the days after the fire, West Adelaide coach Andrew Collins said his players and club officials were "gutted" that their facilities were destroyed in the blaze.
He said he had lost paraphernalia accumulated over his 14 year coaching and playing career in the fire.
The youths will next appear in court in April.
