Whilst the flares do add some atmosphere to the spectacle they are simply too dangerous to tolerate. I reckon CCTV and hand held video recorders should be overtly used to discourage offenders and to catch the culprits, who can then be banned and otherwise punished accordingly. Isn't this what has been done in Europe to deal with antisocial behavoir at soccer games?

The SANFL really has to pull their finger out on this one as it has been going on for many years now and if someone gets injured by a flare I reckon they would have a good case for lack of duty-of-care by the SANFL, unless the SANFL can demonstrate that they have made every effort to stop the flares.

Fair comment. As a parent myself these days i find i have no tolerance for the cretin with the flare, where in the past i probably would have shrugged it off or just seen it as a bit unfortunate. Now I realise the cretin occupying public space does so at the expense of a whole range of other people.

If you have a young family and by chance sit next to a fan who sets off a flare do you think you they will say "gee that flare was good, that will make me come again next year" or "that could hurt my family, I dont need to take this risk in trying to enjoy a day at the footy, next year Ill stay home and watch it on TV"

Check out the photo below, I reckon I can see Centurion in the vicinity!!!!!!! ;)

well we were sitting the bay in between the 2 sponsored seating bays, so whilst it wouldnt have been right in our faces, Im glad we left after the reserves

That's trememdous, but your judgements are not what I come here for so please retain them for others. Perhaps if you wish to change something about SANFL, make it your club. If you think you have tried, try again and try harder.

My (11 y.o.) son took me over to the area behind the goals for the final quarter and we had fun there watching/being part of the crowd, dancing with strangers and, yes booney, we enjoyed the smoke and bright lights of the flares.

Flares aint dangerous, get over it i was more worried about the fireworks let off in middle of car park sunday night!

And ya wanna talk about drunk wankers, well that guy that took 6 weslo and 4 cops to cuff and drag out in front of northern goals right next to celebrating players, was told by weslo guy this was a Sturt supporter who started swinging at any Central supporter he could after siren! Real classy he was! Ended up being dragged out carried by arms and feet. Real hero

Anybody know if this dickhead was Craig the drunk (used to be always seen at Sturt games, about 35 - 40y.o with goon bag in hand, mullet, druggie shirt etc). I've personally removed him from the cheer squad a few times but while I was on the ground with the banner, he was where our cheer squad was sitting and punched the Centrals mascot (who is a girl, IIRC).
He got kicked out but that doesn't mean he didn't get back in and stayed up the Northern to be equally wankerous there.
If anybody knows if this was him, please let me know as we're in the process of having him banned from attending football games ever again. I'm guessing some of you out there would know who I'm talking about

Cheers duncs. So you obviously know Craig the drunk and how much of a waste of good oxygen he is.

What do flares have to do with the SANFL? We're not going to a bloody boat show. You and a few others who I thought were above the typical Central stereotype you do your best to defend everyday, only lob yourself right back in the middle of the rest of the doggie tards when you condone flares in the middle of large crowds.

Not that you care of course, tough guy.....

It has become a bit of a worry when we've decided to move to the other end also, mainly happens at Adel Oval in the last qtr and both mobs cross each others path.
