Agreed, given the game is on Sunday, it gives the club an extra day to 'name' the player(s) in doubt and give them a fitness test Saturday morning (especially if the club in question has their reserves playing finals on the same day as well) before making a decision on the blokes in question.

Here is the Doggies line up for this game...

League Team:

FF: Matthew Slade Daniel Havelberg Scott Dutschke
HF: Chad O'Sullivan Daniel Schell Chris Gowans
CL: Eddie Sansbury James Gowans Brayden O'Hara
HB: Paul Thomas Heath Lawry Richard Cochrane
FB: Andrew Hayes Yves Sibenaler Lee Spurr

RK: Jason Mackenzie Ryan Williams Ian Callinan

INT (from): Jonathon Giles, Trent Goodrem, Kyle Jenner, Ben Nason & Adam Switala

INTO 23: James Gowans, Matthew Slade & Daniel Havelberg

OUTS: Thomas Dunne

I would suspect that if Matthew Slade and James Gowans both play then Ben Nason and possibly Adam Switala will drop out of the squad and play reserves the day before against Sturt at Alberton Oval. Obviously Jon Griffin hasn't come up from his injury so Giles keeps his spot.

Interesting that Daniel Havelberg is back in the side after looking a little rusty in the 2's the week before but I think it is a gamble the Dogs have to take as they need that extra tall up forward but he also adds flexibility and can go down back if need be.

I like the look of that Central side, great to see Havelberg in the team, if he does play he will play up forward and probably won't need to lead up any further than the 50 meter ark so fitness shoudln't be a problem.

The players to drop out IMH uneducated opinion will come from Slade, Callinan and Nason.

Dan Havelberg changes the entire look of our side. His clean hands and great finishing along with his versatility just make such a difference when he's there. It would be a huge boost if he plays, obviously if there's a doubt on him the selectors will have to balance the benefit with the risk of him breaking down.

STURT is hopeful gun full forward Brant Chambers will be right for Sunday’s qualifying final against Central District despite missing training this week.

The Ken Farmer Medallist did not train with the main group on Monday and Wednesday nights after pulling up sore from last week’s win over Port Adelaide.

``It’s general soreness,’’ Double Blues football operations manager Duane Massey said.

``We’ll name him tonight and expect him to play.

``He’ll train on Saturday and we’re 95 per cent certain he’ll play.’’

Sturt will make at least one change to its team this week with seasoned midfielder Ben Nelson out with a hamstring strain.

Massey said it’s hoped Nelson will be available next week.

Just a question...would Toby, or any other Power listed players playing in the SANFL finals for that matter, have partaken in mad monday with the rest of the Power boys?

Yeah, I remember seeing on the news a couple of weeks ago the Power having their Mad Monday, kicking the day off at St. Vinnies buying some retro outfits. I recall at least seeing Paul Stewart in the footage, can't remember with the others.

Why do you ask Hazydog ?

Funny how Thurstans is now available after cutting his ties with Port Power.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Not really sure BP!
I guess I'd like to think that any AFL listed player still involved in SANFL finals would leave his end of season celebrations/commiserations to the end of his playing season. Be interesting to see how the SANFL coaches would view it and whether they think some mental edge could be lost by a player "letting his hair down" on the eve of the finals.

From the SANFL web site today...

Warren Partland @ The Advertiser wrote:
Sturt's anxious wait on Chambers

Gun Sturt full forward Brant Chambers must negotiate a fitness test tomorrow before being cleared to front Central District in the qualifying final at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

Chambers is battling to prove his health after damaging his right knee in the final minor-round win against the Port Adelaide Magpies at Alberton on Saturday. The three-time Ken Farmer Medallist hurt the knee when Magpie Matthew Lokan fell across his leg and he was unable to train on Wednesday night.

The Double Blues are prepared to give Chambers, who has kicked 80 goals this season, as much time as possible in his bid to be available. Retired Port Adelaide Power defender Toby Thurstans has been included in a 23-man squad along with Matthew Payne and Patrick Fittock, back from suspension. Ben Nelson (hamstring) could not be considered.

As expected, the BULLDOGS regained on-baller James Gowans after he missed the loss to Norwood last weekend with an ankle problem.

Co-captain Matthew Slade, missing for the past two games with a hamstring injury, has been included in a 23-man squad, while Daniel Havelberg has been named at full forward. Havelberg was sidelined for nine weeks with hamstring concerns before playing in the reserves last week.

Thomas Dunne has been omitted.

WOODVILLE-West Torrens has strengthened its line-up for the elimination final against North Adelaide with the return of Paul Stewart, Nick Salter and Matthew Broadbent from the Power. Tom Corbett has also been named in the 23-man squad.

Defender Zack Hier and youngster Brodie Smith were omitted.

The ROOSTERS resisted the temptation to take a risk with skipper Damon White and he will miss the do-or-die battle.

White damaged his hip in the victory over West Adelaide in the penultimate round and was a spectator for last week's impressive victory over the Panthers.

With the key position player needing a decent hit-out this week, he was ruled out when he failed to complete the team's main session.

Surgery may be necessary to repair the damage.

The Roosters promoted Kriston Thompson and Cohen Thiele to a 22-man squad, while Jesse O'Brien was omitted.

I thought I would jump on the CDFC forum page just to get a bit of an appreciation as to what Dogs fans are feeling about the big game.

In general the posters, Big Phil and Brucetiki for example, made some intelligent and interesting observations of both Central & Sturt....and then there was this peanut

We've got options... make no mistake. We also need to ensure that we get as many CDFC supporters to Footy Park on Sunday. Our support has been a little flat this year, so we need to show the team that we're still here and right behind them.

Sturt and Glenelg are good sides, but they're not great. It would be a blight on the SANFL if we let just a 'good' side win a SANFL Premiership.

Classic stuff I thought. At a guess Captain Centrals is around early to mid twenties and has been following SANFL footy way back since 2000. Either that or he is just an arrogant bell end.

Just exactly what's wrong with that post?

And I'm sure if you went on the Blues' website, you'd find similar 'drivel'.

So, what's your point?

Actually we're all a bit arrogant. I checked out the sturt site - now I understand the meaning of humility and am a better person for it
