Thats another thing that should be taken into account with zones as it would be a lot easier for Central to get a kid from Gawler, South from Victor, Sturt from Mount Barker, Norwood from Gumercha than other clubs from the Eyre Peninsula, Roxby Downs, etc.
To just do zones purely on males aged 10-19 is simplistic but probably not fair in the overall scheme of things, it should be a complicated formula based on many things IMHO.

Care to expand or edit that comment kookas?

I take it he is referring to the very significant Italian community of Newton, and their links to the soccer code.
I used to live near the suburb and it seemed to me that both Aussie rules and soccer were popular, though perhaps soccer was more fervently followed. Hard to tell.

Rostrevor College is also in that area and is a good footballing school from which Norwood has benefited over the years too. So I think the next Socceroos comment is a bit flip.

It isnt racist Dutchy, I am italian so why would I say that. I was referring to Newton being surrounded by some soccer clubs (Campbelltown and NAB) than football clubs. I believe we have lost in the re-zoning of the clubs. We had 3-4 kids training with us at the start of the year with the Sturt 16's but they now need to play for Westies.

Interesting side story on this...

I was just told that Sturt will be playing an internal trial at Waikerie Oval this Saturday (where they'll play a match for premiership points later in the season).

Interesting to have a zoning debate and then play an internal trial in another club's zone.

Wanted to write the same myself DW. You would think Murray Bridge would be the venue for such a thing. Maybe they want to get a feel of the ground seeing as they are playing there later in the year.

Different areas have different backgrounds of course. Eagles zone has Greek and Italian in the South of the Metro zone and Vietnamese in the North of the zone. Port would have a large Vietnamese population in their zone I would have thought, too.

I'd like to counter this arguement and say that kids in zones close to the city have a wider choice of sports compared to zones further away, where footy and netball are pretty much the only sport you can play.
