ANZAC Day Incident at Coopers Stadium

Postby Big Phil » Mon Apr 29, 2013 3:48 pm

Interesting to see what comes of the tribunal hearing...

SANFL Press Release wrote:
Monday 29 April 2013

Collins, Bassett and Bode charged with breaching SANFL regulations

The SANFL has charged West Adelaide Football Club (WAFC) Senior Coach Andrew Collins and Norwood Football Club (NFC) Senior Coach Nathan Bassett, and player Jace Bode, for breaching SANFL Regulation 15.1.1 during last Thursday’s ANZAC Day Grand Final re-match.

This regulation states that officials of the League must not use abusive, threatening or insulting language and must not interfere with or assault any other official of the League.

It is alleged that;

· Andrew Collins used abusive, threatening and insulting language toward NFC players and was engaged in physical contact with NFC Coach Nathan Bassett.

· Nathan Bassett used abusive, threatening and insulting language and instigated physical contact with WAFC Coach Andrew Collins.

· Jace Bode made inappropriate physical contact with WAFC Coach Andrew Collins.

The charges have been referred to the SANFL Tribunal for hearing and determination on Tuesday night. Each party face a potential suspension and or fine of up to $10,000.

SANFL General Manager Football Chris Davies said “the SANFL was provided with statements from the NFC, WAFC and other witnesses to the incident and has charged Andrew Collins, Nathan Bassett and Jace Bode accordingly. The SANFL tribunal must now determine the validity of the allegations made against the parties”.

As the matter is to be heard by the SANFL Tribunal, no further comment will be made until the charges have been heard.

It's bad for the game. Norwood gaining a reputation as recalcitrant troublemakers, not the angels they think they are.

So both clubs have now been involved in salary cap breaches as well as the coaches being involved in physical confrontations.

Hard to take the high moral ground for them on any matters now. :D

All I can say is this. Bassett, I wonder what would have happened if you had instigated an "incident" at Elizabeth with Roy Laird. Tough talk all you like but keep yer bloody hands to yerself.

Seeing as there was an incident in the crowd at the same game, how much, could it be said, that this incident perhaps enflamed the other? Ie. "Your coach pushed my coach!"
"I'll push you, wanker!"
Was the crowd incident after half time?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

I kind of see his point. We expect players to engage in rough house tactics. Seeing the coaches do it gives us all licence to have a go - some might think.

Collins instigated it, didn't he?

And...what would have happened? Would Roy have gone all Junkyard Dog on the Hound?

Following that logic coaches beat the hell out of each other every week.
It's the difference between what's expected and when those that usually show restraint go the biff.
