Fantastic effort scott - very enjoyable reading, especially since the Eagles made the finals.

The guy would have to be one of the most useless players to have graced SANFL league football. The fact he is >200cm and would get less than 5 hit outs in a match is truly staggering. Even more so the guy weighs about 50kgs. Borderline anorexia

To put some words to the stats, 2012 was a combined stuff up from the get go :o
Godden said early in the season he didn't know what a Premiership hangover was; well he does now!
We have mentioned not replacing late outs Allmond and Tiller when $ was there in the cap.
Preseason seems to have lacked focus and leadership with a few guys on the outer due to injuries ie Day, Bock and Tiller before he opted out. The preseason games were the usual thing you would expect, but the lack of urgency and feeling of it just going to happen was well ingrained by now.
Looking back now Treeby and Rimmington not up forward as threats and goalscorers were massive loses that held the side back later in the year when things finally got going somewhat. The forward line never looked convincing unless Greiger was there also and even the last final against North was skewed our way as the Roosters basically gave up trying to score after half time apart from Johnston on the break. This squad was NEVER going to be a top one as it just had to many holes in it, with basic kicking the football being one of them
Sumner was a big plus with his run and carry as a foil to Jarrad, I'd hate to think how bad our ball movement could have become once we lost confidence, if he hadn't kept having a crack down the sidelines.
Godden's not too interested in outside players really, so expect some good solid lads that don't need a hell of a lot of leadership, to be recruited asap.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Luke Thompson be around the mark for Club Champ, only missed one game and was solid all year. Expect Rowntree, Greiger to be in the top 3 also.
Trust the process.

to LEH, a Henley Sharks supporter talking about recruiting from Amateur League,

How did Hoban look playing for your team? Has he burnt his bridges with the Eagles? Would come cheaper than elsewhere but Warren McGinty, despite his transfer fee, might give better instant value.
If rumours are right, I like the Eagles thinking:
Daniel Kirk gives us that big bodied key position player who can stand under the ball that we've lacked for the past few years. Securing a knock ruckman is obviously the highest priority and next, two fast onballers ( With Cicca, Rowntree, Shirley, Goldsworthy Lane, we've lacked that run and spread that Boyd, Cross, Liddle, Batsanis etc provide).

But ? the $$$ that we've got to spend and if we've got it, then ? the salary cap.

Godden would rather eat a shit sandwich then take Hoban back after he walked out after Easter and left us with no cover for Parry.
There's plenty of $ to spend don't worry about that; Do you think anyone copped a pay rise after that rubbish some of them dished up
 Eddy has been flushed down the S bend so right there you will have money along with Cicca, Shirley, Greiger & Sumner.
There are plenty of fringe players out there from probably half the clubs, that will jump onboard if we show more interest then our initial contact.
November 1st is when the OFFICIAL wheeling and dealing begins, but ofcoarse most of the ground work is already happening.
Let's hope the Eagles Footy dept. is working their butt's off Right Now!

Eddy, Guilhaus, Biagi, Schwarz we've made some bad decisions with recruiting. With McKenzie, Powell, Parry having possibly playing their last season in 2013, we need to get some good types this time to settle in to be the nucleus for 2014 and beyond -can't afford to stuff up.
Colville, Ciccollela, Lindsay, McKenzie, Powell, Treeby and later Jarrad gave us that nucleus and stability throughout the early 2000s and we haven't found a replacemet group yet.
Perhaps Roundtree, Goldsworthy, Grocke, Grocke are developing but need to add another 3-4 good solid consistent contributers to be the foundation. Ben Greiger's leadership will be missed.
