Unleash Solar Oval @ Woodville

Postby areaman » Wed May 04, 2011 11:40 am

The Woodville-West Torrens Football Club (WWTFC) is delighted to welcome South Australian Solar Company ‘Unleash Solar’ as its inaugural Oval naming rights sponsor for Woodville Oval.

Unleash Solar, based at Hindmarsh, with additional satellite offices in WA & QLD, have committed to the Eagles as the Oval Naming Rights sponsor for seasons 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The three year investment is considered to be one of the largest naming rights sponsorships in the SANFL competition and includes the installation of Solar Systems at the WWTFC’s Oval Avenue headquarters and its licensed venue, the Eagles Bar & Bistro at 722 Port Road, Beverley.

Speaking today, Unleash Solar Owner & Director, Dion Perdi said the sponsorship reflected the strong commitment their organisation has made and will continue to make in the local community.

"I grew up in the western suburbs, our head office is in the western suburbs and to support an SANFL team and Oval that is located in the western suburbs is ideal for Unleash Solar. I can see the partnership with the Eagles being extremely beneficial for all parties and I look forward to expanding our relationship with the people of the local community."

He added “Unleash Solar is committed to providing green energy alternatives for all Australian households at an affordable price. Our mission is to change how Australians view alternative energy, and show how everyone can do their bit to fight climate change. We believe the Eagles provide us with a fantastic vehicle to assist us in achieving this mission”.

WWTFC President Kurt Slaven said: “The Club is thrilled to welcome Unleash Solar as our inaugural Oval naming rights sponsor. Like us, Unleash Solar has a commitment to the community that is unparalleled in their industry”.

“We have no doubt that this partnership will help highlight climate change as an issue to all that support South Australian Football and we are delighted that our Club will be a leader in showing the benefits of alternative energy, specifically through the installation of Solar Systems from Unleash Solar”.

“Importantly, for those in the community that visit Unleash Solar Oval @ Woodville in the future, the WWTFC will dedicate a minimum of 25% of all monies received from this partnership to infrastructure upgrades within the Oval precinct”.

I stand by those comments, but good on them for their sponsorship which I'm sure is much appreciated by the club.

Not sure the club officially called it the Fortress! Certainly didn't get any sponsorship money for it anyway.

So North and Port are the only two clubs not selling "naming rights" to their grounds left. Ironically the most wealthy and least wealthy of the SANFL clubs however I suspect the Port Magpie portion of the PAFC won't have much say if the cash strapped PAFC seeks a naming rights deal re Alberton Oval?

At least the NAFC have come out publically in the past few years to state that they are not interested in $$$ for selling the naming rights to Prospect Oval. I suspect that "line" would be vastly different if we did not have the income streams we have from our pokies!
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Not quite OTR ... Allan Hickinbotham Oval at Noarlunga is not a sponsorship arrangement, its a recognition of his contribution to the club ... trust me South did not receive a financial windfall from the change of name .... although that is the perception.

Err... no need for a 'windfall' from that.
My understanding is the State Govt. wavered the debt to build it - or am I mistaken?

I seem to recall being down there when Mike Ryan announced it

You're right Phil, no money changed hands for the naming of Hickinbotham Oval, indeed well done by SAFC in recognising what Allan did for the club over many decades. Iám not to sure about the waiver of building costs LEH, SAFC paid $100k pa for 10 years to lease a facility few wanted to go to, so we can presume the $1ml rent paid to the Government covered the initial cost. The club does however have a $3.0ml debt which paid for the redevelopment of the facility which has vastly improved all aspects of the ground as reflected in continueing growth in crowd attendences.

I thought the SAFC got some sort of lease arrangment ( 99 years IIRC ) that involved no monies changing hands?

Correct Booney, a 99 year pepercorn lease, which was a win for SAFC, SANFL, Sport in the Southern Districts and the Government given that the facility was initially built as the "Southern Sporting Complex" with South being the only sporting club that signed up leaving what would have been a white elephant built by the Government if South walked away which it was considering givern the excessive rent and poor attendences. Once the new lease was in place this allowed the club to make substanial investments into the facility through borrowing of monies against the long term lease, thereby improving the facility that both the community, SANFL and SAFC can be proud of.
