PAFC is dying

Postby philcas » Sun Apr 03, 2011 8:57 am

I believe the PAFC is dying
1.3million dollars in debt
2.23,000 to first home game.
3. lost at home to West Coast
4.Adelaide oval development in doubt.
But why has this happened?
ANS:
The death of PAFC started as soon as it began when they believed that they could stand on their own 2 feet with their own supporter base 35,000 plus back in 1997.
First it stole the tradition of the PA magpies which alienated not only some of their own suppoters but the general football follower. The initial us v them mentality did alot of harm trying to gain further support.
The fact they were very competitive from the start did help them & probably was their best advertising for support they had.
Now the supporter base has seetled at around 25,000 -30,000 MAX it doesnt help with making money with games at footy park which i think needs around 22,000 to break even.
Fremantle Fc which was a simmilar scenario has a supporter base of 35,000-40,000 & really has no success behind it.
so how do they get the crowds to come?

the only possible saviour is either a better deal at footy park
or a move to a redeveloped adelaide oval
OTHERWISE IT WILL BE RIP PAFC

Freo are inclusive, Port are hell-bent on being exclusive to those who support the whole 'Since 1870' malarkey and alienating everyone else. And as the pitiful crowd at their heavily-promoted, Crows-free, Magpies-opening launch game shows, nobody's buying it. Moving games to Adelaide, much further away from their heartland, ain't gonna change this

I've said it for ages now, S.A. doesn't have the population to support 2 AFL clubs. Not a population that is interested, anyway.

You can put the same thing up for WA and they get more to games. Same thing for Qld and they got more for the new team then Port got yesturday.

Pretty good analysis. Despite the lack of success, Freo games at Subi are always a heap of fun and the supporters are always good value. If it had been East Freo that demanded entry because of the amount of premierships they had and went around bagging supporters of the other WAFL clubs, it'd be different.

Port have successfully burnt off the majority of neutrals who were toying with the idea of supporting them back in 1997. Freo present an option if you're not into the Eagles, whereas Port do not if you weren't a Port supporter to begin with.

23000 is a poor effort no matter what excuse you can come up with. Perfect day for it with the Magpies as a lead in.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Get rid of the bay covers, they're embarrassing. It tells people that they've given up trying to fill the stadium.

I heard a rumour that a shed load of free tickets was given out. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I don't think that's unusual. When working in the area we were always offered free tickets. Took them up on it once too.

Once.

Every Port game they give away hundreds if not thousands of tickets.

Better for the SANFL to get people in for nothing, and then make a little bit of money on car parking/catering off those freebies.

I wonder what the excuse is for the piss poor showing yesterday. Can't wait for the usual suspects to roll out the lame excuses.....

They could not pay me to go to a game.

they have made it total exclusive to Port Adelaide people only.

I am not interested........Port wanted to break away from the comp and the EXPERIEMENT as utterly failed!!!

Would be interested to note how many people were there for the AFL game. Would suggest a total of 20000 would be more accurate.

As for "One Club" what an absolute joke. More Norwood supporters than Magpies for the first half. On my departure 15 minutes after the end of our game, when I was told I had to walk half way around the oval to get out as I was a SANFL supporter not AFL, I noted literally hundreds of Port Adelaide "supporters" walking to the ground. That was about 20 minutes before the kick off. I thought yesterday was a "celebration" of them becoming "One".

This "marriage" will last about 2 years. By that time the "Power" will have sucked every last bit of life out of the Magpies and then they will be discarded like a broken thong which is very sad. I have a genuine respect for the PAFC (Magpies) and hope that I will be proven incorrect but I just can't see how they can survive if yesterday was an example of them supporting each other.

Let's hope that the SANFL brand is not damaged any further in the meantime.

Bassets treatment yesterday only highlights the lack of regard and respect forwarded to ALL remaining clubs within the SANFL IMO. Just my thoughts.

Yeah I dont really agree with that.

Yeah, this is something that happens with the Crows as well. There seems to be a thought with AFL footy in this state that its purely a get in, get out thing. Like its a chore. Most of the crowd try and limit the time between rocking up and the match starting to as small as possible and plenty of people leave before the end of the match, or almost literally run out the door to the carpark when the siren goes. I love a long lazy day at the footy.
