SANFL players taken in National / PreSeason / Rookie Draft

Postby Big Phil » Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:07 pm

So who do you think from your club are a chance or definates to get drafted at the upcoming NAB National Draft up on the Gold Coast...

There is obviosuly a bit of talk about mature age recruits on the radar as well...

From Central I think the following players are a chance:

Josh Vater
Lee Spurr
Trent Goodrem
Andrew Hayes
Damian Hynes
Josh Wittwer
Josh Waldhuter
Jarrod Schilling

I would probably though Damien Hynes as an outside chance but would think Trent Goodrem is no chance to go based on this year, he was steady but was never great imho and didnt really kick on from last years form, same applies for Dutschke and O'Hara.

Spoke to Josh Wittwer Saturday at cricket and no AFL clubs have attempted to make contact with him and he has been to any AFL screening so i would say he is very unlikely to go as well.

From the Eagles:
Brodie Smith is a beauty
Jared Polec will go, but not entirely sold on whether he'll make it.
Angus Rowntree would be a reasonable chance with a late pick.
Allmond was average early, better last half of the year. Doubt he will be drafted.
Will be some interest in some of our u/18's that GWS haven't snatched yet.

Don't know whether there is too many others in the Eagles senior side.

The key dates to find out if and who your club will lose in the draft(s) are as follows:

National Draft - Thursday November 18th

Pre-Season Draft - Tuesday December 7th

Rookie Draft - Tuesday December 7th

Would be good to see the Crows and Power perhaps rookie a few of the local lads meaning they stay with their SANFL sides...

I would have thought Hynes would be about 80% chance. I think the Crows or Power could do worse than pick up a tall, strong one grab, reasonable kick from fifty type player. I selfishly hope he stays next year. I'd like to see him play league for a year.

totally agree, would also love to see him get picked up locally then we could go with 3 tall forwards of Havelberg, Obst and Hynes all local products as well.

Given how he pulled himself out of the Beep test at the state screening not sure he did himself any favours in front of the scouts when it is a test as much of your GnD as it is your aerobic power.

However given his size and national carnival performances he probably has done enough already.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Nathan Daniel? You've got to be kidding. Good luck to the kid but seriously, if he gets put onto an AFL list I'm going out and buying a pair of footy boots and making a comeback given this clearly shows the standard of AFL has dropped.

Unless he has improved out of sight from the end of the season he would be lucky to stay in the eagles squad. A very very good reserves player but cannot make the transition to the league, much like Fairclough

Think Nick Liddle is every chance to get drafted, needs to bulk up in the weight department but clearly the lad can play and with the right coaching and development would do pretty well, reminds me sometimes of Alwyn Davey, who still gets thrown around like a rag doll in matches but is steadily improving anyway!

Unfortunately have to agree Mr Fuller. THe lad obviously tries his guts out, but can't see him being much more than a bit-player in the league side.

Nathan Rayner is probably one who would be worth a look. His game as a debut in a prelim final was pretty good. Seems to have pace and skills, maybe needs to work on his physical aspects but this would come with more experience. Certainly wouldn't be any worse than a couple the Power have had on their list over the last couple years.

From South there would not be too many in contention, probably the few posiblities would be
1)Nick Liddle
2)Ken Cambell
3)Nick Murphy
Murphy had a very good year,he won the SANFL star search award as the best young player and came third in souths best and fairest.
He is a smooth mover and is quite tall for a midfield type player, which could appeal to AFL recruiters, but maybe his skills dont quite match his other attributes.
Liddle has been fantastic for us and might just get a shot while Kevin Campbell has pace to burn and has definate potential.
