Nick Liddle had 17 disposals for the Panthers in the last term

From a South point of the view, the effort was there, but the Dogs were a class above.

Centrals appeared asleep during the opening 15 minutes, as South played some of their best footy for the year, using the breeze perfectly. What South did well in the first Q, the Dogs did even better in the second Q though, and at one stage had kicked 9 goals to 1 after the slow start. Some of the long goals from 50 were superb.

South hung around in the second half, and got within 3 goals half way through the final before the dogs again pulled away.

McKernan, Liddle, Murphy, Carter, Crate and Lyons were some of South's better players.

Pretty small crowd. No more than 1500-1600 I would have thought.

South Adelaide won the toss and kicked with the cyclone to the southern end of the Antartic, and they initally took full advantage of it, kicking 5.1 in the first 15 minutes as the crowd endured the Billy J Smith impersonator getting excited on the PA (all you need is a few Fiona McDonald high pitch laughs and you'd have an It's a Knockout-style commetary on the PA). From there though, it was all Centrals as they kicked 2 late goals (including one right on the siren) to get the margin back to 3. With the breeze worth 5-6 goals, Centrals were set to have a decent lead at half time, and they hit the ground running kicking the first goal at the 13 second mark of the second quarter! It was all Centrals with 7 great goals to the Panthers paltry 1 to not only shut the horrendous PA system up, but also take a 4 goal lead heading into half time. South's day summed up when they gave away a clear deliberate rushed behind, gifting Havelberg the last goal of the half.

Centrals then had a great third quarter into the cyclone, outscoring South for most of the quarter before a couple of late South goals saw the lead reduced to 18 points at three quarter time. Again Centrals hit the ground running in the last quarter, the highlight being Calinan's party trick goal. Yes, South kicked a couple of belated goals, but it was Centrals winning comfortably by 33 points (which flattered South considering it was a 64 point turnaround from the 15 minute mark of the first quarter) to retain the Mayors Cup.

I think I've finally thawed out.

Centrals started slow, something they seem to do after a bye. South moved the ball well in the first quarter and looked good. I thought we were going to be in for another day similar to Unley Oval.

Centrals probably played one and a half good quarters.

Wouldn't be surprised if Liddle wins the Magarey. He just never stops running. Not sure why McKernan can't get a chance with the Crows.

For a change, I actually thought the umpiring was pretty reasonable today.

Not sure what the final free kick count was, but I'd say South had a few more. But nevertheless...

Also, Boyd showed why he won a Knuckey Cup, and his disposal seemed much cleaner than his South days.

Today would have been a rarity for Boyd - leaving Noarlunga Oval a winner :D

In no particular order, Warren Partland from the Advertiser had Callinan, C.Gowans, Thomas, Boyd, O'Hara, Reichert and Sansbury in his best players from memory.

Is that the smallest crowd at a SANFL game this year?

(IIRC there was a small crowd at Richmond for their Sat night game vs Port?).

Unfortunately I missed a trip to Noarlunga this year so can't comment on their PA system specials. But I thought the PA at Elizabeth was very annoying recently. It went on full bore at every break, and at times the ground caller was talking at the same time as music was playing. At least it seemed to disappear when footy was being played, but that was the only respite all day. The good thing about the Elizabeth PA though was the fact they provided around the grounds score checks for other SANFL and AFL games, which I did really appreciate. 8)

One wonders how much longer Nick Liddle will be at the South Adelaide Football Club when the AFL draft rolls around, the lad has some real talent and would be a strong chance to be drafted on his form this season.
