Good result for the Maggies, will take any win at this stage :).

The reserves won by 94 as well.

The Captain Ben Warren played in the Reserves along with several other players who will play in the League side in Round 1, I would have thought its fairly obvious that the goal at this stage is to give game time to the new players recruited into the club whose SANFL experience stands at one game - the trial against the Eagles. Remember only to well South flogging Sturt in a trial match and then getting done by 70 points in round 1!

It's a trial lads. I wouldn't read too much into the scoreline as both sides would have been trying different players, tactics, setups etc.

Hopefully there were no injuries!

I know its only a trial but 32 & 94 pt floggings

A few League players playing in the Bs, i wouldn't be using that as an excuse.

I think Ron had said if you missed any preseason you come back through the seconds.Having said that Ben was not match ready against teh Eagles seconds.

I am not that familiar with Souths playing list, i know Warren will obviously come in for R1 but who else will play seniors, from the reserves on the weekend?

Some good signs for Port though, Cloke was out standing in the ruck, Slattery played really well, Daniel Stanley was very good in the middle of the ground. Brad Robertson used the ball and played well on the wing.
To come into the side over the next few weeks, Clayton, Miklejohn, Walsh, Lokan, Thurgood, Maddern.

I'd say South improved on the eagles game 2 weeks earlier. Seem to be picking up the game plan more and running straight at the ball which has not been the south way in the past. Suggest Ron Fuller is still toying with a few things that may or may not work like, Handles in the back-line, Rolfey at full-forward etc. Liddle and O'Keefe were fantastic again. Horne came in for his first game and showed that he has some real ability. Still got Warren, Sandery, Thewlis etc to come in, which will add some bulk to what is a very young and small side. maybe McKernan as well? and Williamstown recruits Joyce and Gotch.

Twos were awful after half-time - will be interestig to see how Ronny responds to that. Gotch showed a few things in the twos and you would think will play league next week. Young lad from zone I noticed was Ken Campbell who was as quick as anything I've seen since Alwyn Davey!

All in all, I quite pleased with the progress I'm seeing, but think it may take up until mid-year before the new game-plan, disciplines, structures become second nature, after most of the boys have gone 2 years with out any of it.

Sounds familiar to me. :(
