There certainly are detractors of Sam Fairclough, I think because of the perception of him being soft. But if that effort in the last quarter is going to be a regular feature of his game, that perception will have to change. I could not heap more praise on that dive in for the ball to get it out of the vicinity, then to follow it up with the snap for goal which tipped the ledger one last time. =D> And then came the fluke bounce of the ball from Miles!

In a match riddled by errors, I think the last thing you want is a ball that does tricks in the wind. Such as the case in the first quarter with the Burley ball. I know what the ball was like because I kicked the ball back after the goal from Grocke. It was inflated, but felt more like a beach ball. Then I managed to do the same with the Sherrin in the 2nd, and it was rock hard.

For a four quarter effort, you can't go past Luke Jarrad. Always running hard with or without the ball, he set up a lot of forward plays from the wing. Also, I need to mention the goal by Polec in the 2nd, such a calm head from the pocket to thread it through, and he actually celebrated before it went through!

While I am happy to get through to next week, we will need to improve the disposals (and less handball) rapidly. None of the top three you would expect to be that bad with the ball.

Tough but unconvincing win by the eagles.

I thought we controlled much of the play but could not deliver the footy well to our forwards. North on the other hand made the most of their opportunities and delivered precisely to Alleway and Stewart.

My pre-game prediction that we don't have a match-up for Stewart was justified and he almost won the ball of his own boot.

Jarrad was great all day for the Eagles as was Salter. Polec and Powell were others who played 4 quarters. We had other contributors at times but I thought these were the main guys.

For north i thought Ackland and Stewart were great. Ackland and particular dominated the rucks in the last half although it did help him by having Dabrowski decide that despite being a ruckman he doesn't need to jump at the centre bounces!!! Almost cost us with North's clearances.

Umpires were terrible all day with some baffling decisions. However I think some of the decisions against the eagles (or non-decisions) had more of an impact on the scoreboard. Why Passador's mark was not paid is beyond me. And in the last quarter Corbett's free kick that was received 55m out after being collected after disposal should have been paid down ground.

We'll be helped next week by Cicca playing a full game rather than the quarter he contributed today due to injury. Also Shirley will replace either Corbett or (hopefull) Daniels. Not sure why P Fiacchi wasn't playing today but he should also return

I think it had to go back because it either was a behind or out on the full. That doesn't make much sense to me; it should be in the spot where it went over the line as it was after disposal, but that's the current rule at the moment.

Oh yes, with the Passador mark; then it should have been holding the ball against North but it wasn't; followed by a free kick for high contact to North! But that's all academic now.

Was a good game of footy, shame there was no one there to watch it (or the game after).

Eagles were just slightly better. In reality, both teams had/have no chance of a premiership this year. North will hopefully gain some experience from the match and look to improve next year.

Back to the game anyway, for the first time in a long time I was proud of the what the young Roosters did today as they gave it everything they had and fought it out to the death, once again skill errors but the wind was extremely flukey and contributed to bad mistakes from both sides.
Did Daniel Stewart show that he might be putting up his hand for a AFL career with the Power today? Must have taken over 15 marks in an exceptional display, let himself down with some ordinary kicking but kicked the hardest one when it counted.
Ryswyk proved 3rd time lucky with running shots at the goals and also got his hardest one.
Allan and Archard exceptional as usual. Might see them poll 1 and 2 in the Magarey and it woudln't be a suprise.
Had a great laugh at the pirate jokes that came out when the camera panned to Cicolella wearing an eye patch on the sidelines.
It was a game of contrasts as it was terrible at times but bloody good at times, both sides stepped up in the last quarter when the game was on the line but the Eagles were a bit cleaner with it and controlled it well late in the game, how's the bounce on their sealing goal? Something Shane Warne would have been proud of!
Some of the best end to end footy I'd seen in a while too!
No next week for North but a lot to work with and an improvement of 2 spots on last year!
Good luck to the remaining 4 teams, losing today might just have saved us a flogging next week. I'm off to the MCG, hopefully twice! :D

What an amazing game of changing fortunes, am happy to admit I thought we were gone when North got those couple of goals up, but somehow the boys found something, Ryswyk (as usual), Archard, Allan (as usual) and Stewart were excellent for North. Hard to pick good players for the Eagles besides Salter as everyone seemed to fade in and out of the match, thought Broadbent played well in the second half and McKenzie and Jarrad were pretty consistent as usual, lots of guys though seemed well down on what they are capable of....something to work on for next week.
The Todd Miles goal is one of the most freakish things i have seen happen in the years I have watched the game, and what a time for it to happen.
Trust the process.

Jarrad always plays well when hes not manned up on .North didnt man up on Jarrad .Perhaps Flooding to stop Salter and Passador allowed Jarrad the freedom he enjoys on the footy field.

Well done to both teams for gutsing it out for 4 quarters for an entertaining game.

North were very gallant in defeat but the Eagles were just slightly the better team today, but not by very much at all.

Well done to the North supporters who have posted on this thread ... you have taken the defeat in good spirit.

MickyJ, I have only been posting on this site for about 5 months and I've mostly enjoyed your posts but your behaviour after the win today is an embarrassment, and the fact that you're not blind drunk makes it even worse.

But since you seem to be enjoying yourself so go right ahead ... there is no way that the Eagles will get close to Sturt next week so you might as well enjoy your 5 mins of fame now.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

I'm going to pretend I didn't just read the first 3 pages of this thread and try and re-claim back that 10mins of wasted time in my life....

Add that to the 5mins I wasted at the game arguing with a fellow North supporter sitting behind me who kept screaming 'man up man up'. Ahh, sorry mate that aint the game plan and hasn't been for some time.

Well done Eagles, dug in when it counted and got over the line. Proud of our boys today despite some key players missing and a bunch of others with limited finals experience we gave it a shot. Another pre season and chance to work further on the game plan, it will be interesting to see what Healy brings next year.
