We will not compromise the SANFL competition (with AFL reserves teams)."

There is no concrete rule, it is ultimately just up to the AFL clubs whether they want them to play or not.

That is it there Ecky if the AFL club wants them to play then they can, if granted by the AFL, in the case of Shirley it is no surprise as he has been with the Eagles all year but i was surprised Petrenko was allowed to come back and play as he has been with the crows most of the year and has only played one game with the eagles????? The fact neither of them were named to play in the 22 against NM would have been a contributing factor i would think.

Saying that either team is receiving 'an unfair advantage / disadvantage ' is drawing a long bow IMO.

Still, it's that old adage of "2 arms and 2 legs", just because a player is AFL listed doesn't necessarily mean he can't be beaten at SANFL level.

Using that logic, the same could be said with each weeks AFL selections - e.g Travelling emergencies etc. Lets not think that anything about this is 'special'. It is a fact of life and happens every week, not just the split round.

Surely they would realise that to play the two lads will give the Eagles an advantage to winning, as it stands I doubt many people would tip the SAFC for the win. Despite being an SAFC member, I will say that even without Petrenko and Shirley playing for the Eagles, the current SAFC list wont get anywhere near the Eagles anyway.
So with the Eagles list now bolstered, what choices does Clay Sampson have in coaching the side? Most likely it will be to make it a physical contest and scrag them at every opportunity possible, South have little to lose for the rest of the year if they cop injuries from attempting to play a more physical style of football. Suppose then Petrenko or Shirley cop an injury, or get reported for retaliating to being baited, its a likely scenario to occur given the way the match will most likely be played. How does that benefit the club in making their players targets?
