d.rodan & port power

Postby bayman » Sat Apr 18, 2009 12:20 am

rodan was pulled out of the norwood side less than half hour before the game was about to start & nitschke who played 2's played a second game, i know he is a port player but i think these farcical actions by port (has happened before) show NO RESPECT for the sanfl comp or its teams

c'mon chocko show some nouse

rodan will fly to melbourne to be the (2nd) emergency as burgoyne has 'injured' himself

perhaps the rumours of all 9 teams NOT picking players in the mini draft may come to fruition if these incidents keep occurring
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Agreed. surely they knew before then that they may require rodan for their game? what is the difference between him travelling and not playing (possibly as it stands), or not making him available for norwood, and not travelling and playing? there is no guarantee he will play for the failures, why couldnt they just say he is not available and be done with it? Norwood would not have had a player play one and a half games tonight!

Looking at it from Rodans' point of view, he will feel like he's Brett Lee on his streak of 12th man duties.

not necessarily! i dont like what the failures have done to norwood, and i am a north member. it is c@#P! If they let them know sooner they could have planned for it, simple! It is hard enough being a coach, without people being pulled out at the eleventh hour, and being substituted buy people(no disrespect) that have already played half a game!

It happens. Its not really a different situation to a league player getting injured in the warmup and a reserves player getting upgraded. This happened with the Magpies last year when Michael Clinch had to play 1 1/2 games after a player pulled out from the main game late. Maybe they didnt know sooner. Maybe they had a training session this afternoon and an injury (both Burgoyne and Thompson missed a lot of the 2nd half last week with leg injuries) flared up, forcing the drastic measure of pulling a player from a game. This is the price to pay for having players spread across teams and not under the control of the one reserves team.

It's funny it happened three days after a feedback session between the Power and the nine SANFL clubs.

I personally wouldn't have thought Port needed any new enemies at this point in their ten year history but I guess they know best. They certainly always think they do anyway and look where it's got them, two underperforming clubs one of whom at least is technically insolvent.
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

One more reason to pull the Power AFL Licence! ;)
They'll soon unite the SANFL clubs against them - maybe even the PAMs..

Agreed - we North fans whinged for 3 years with exactly the same thing happening to Damon White week in week out and we were howled down by others saying, "He is their player" etc etc.

It has happened to most SANFL clubs over a period time for years!

My $0.02 worth.

They are AFL listed players so whilst it is good to have them play the reality is their wages are paid by the AFL clubs. We're happy to get the $$$ when they are recruited or when we pick up a quality player for nix in the mini-draft at teh same time we need to remember the $$$ and players come with a catch.

This from a poster whos club has been affected by a travelling emergency in rds 2 & 3 (admitedly we knew 1-2 days before bounce down).
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

On the 5RPH call of the game last night that had Warren Partland on from the Advertiser at half time and boy did he get stuck into the Port Adelaide Football Club, and rightly so.

It is just pathetic how they treat the SANFL and they are plenty of clubs that have had enough of them...

Thats all correct mate, but surely it's a two way street and the AFL clubs get some benefit from having their players run around in the next best comp in the nation?

I think last night's situation was a bit of an anomaly in terms of timing, as usually clubs have more time to prepare so we probably shouldn't flip out over one incident .. I wonder if we'll get to the stage where SANFL clubs start having match day emergencies themselves?

Does this mean that after losing Hartlett, we might also lose Davenport this week? :(

well actually i backed north at $2.40....i think it is unfair & would hate to see it happen to glenelg or indeed again, you could say norwood played one player short, i wonder what chocko would think if 9 league clubs played their players in the 2's
