Gavin Colville

Postby Dogwatcher » Thu Sep 20, 2007 3:48 pm

Is this talented and battle hardened Eagles warrior (pun not intended) preparing to say sayonara SANFL?

He's been an Eagles talisman, working hard in the midfield.

But his latest injury worries at the end of a season (finals time), following on from last year's well publicised situation must have him questioning his body.

Thoughts anyone?

Even if he doesn't hang the boots up would surely be struggling to keep his place in the best 21 for WWT next season.

Yep... I think that's it for Gav. :(

Has been a FANTASTIC clubman... although I was VERY surprised that he was given a Premiership Medal last year. ... I do believe that is for those who PLAYED in the match, some would argue with me, but that's how I feel about it.

Back to him, the player. A great clubman / leader. Has really been the backbone of our club for a very long time now... will be gone but certainly NOT forgotten by ALL @ WWTFC. :D

Agree wholeheartedly about your medal sentiments, LEH. IMHO I think he will regret being given it more and more over time. I'd donate it to the club personally.

Colville's only hope of going on is if he can play forward, but I've not seen anything to suggest he could be worth enough up there. The Gowans are nearing the end of their midfield days but they are very good up forward and so could play primarily as forwards and spend 10 minutes or so on the ball when needed next season.

Are you clearing him to the Bays? Best shot at a GF from here...

Seriously, the bloke has busted his freckled arse for many years, contributing to the high standard of our comp. Hopefully he can sort the tired legs out sufficiently to have another run next season.

Reckon he'll give it one more crack. This year he just hasn't been able to get enough match fitness under the belt because of the lack of pre-season, so think that if he is motivated enough to put in a good pre-season, he's still got a couple of years in him.

How many times this year has he been injured? it would have to be a few. I think the writings on the wall, if he doesnt want to read it then he might just be making a mistake. Everyone has to retire sooner or later, for the benefit of the team its probably a wise choice for him to do so.

Hally considering options - yet to make up mind - at training tonight and looked OK as did Biggles. Hally likely to look at future after the 'before Christmas preseason' and just see how he feels.

As we had 3 byes - Biggles is eligible for this week.

I think the run-with role Fuller has given Gav this year suits him at this stage of his career as evidenced by his shut down of Ladhams for 3/4's last week. Will the body hold up though?

Yes, well done to Gav on a super career. Could he be the first player to receive two premiership medals without ever actually playing in one?

I'm hoping to get a premiership medal this year. I've watched the last 15 SANFL GF's without missing one, surely I've earnt it by now?
