Round 8 - A Blockbuster Round?

Postby Squawk » Sat May 08, 2010 9:22 pm

I was just looking at this weeks fixtures and with the premiership table the way it is at the moment, there is something "big" to play for in every match for every side playing (Central has the bye). Four teams are on 6 points and two are on 5 points!

Team P W L D For Ag Pts %age Streak
WWT 6 5 1 628 480 10 56.7% W2
CDFC 6 5 1 590 476 10 55.3% W2
NFC 7 3 4 543 480 6 53.1% W3
WAFC 6 3 3 494 447 6 52.5% W1
GFC 6 3 3 503 514 6 49.5% L1
NAFC 7 3 4 494 646 6 43.3% L3
SFC 6 2 3 1 517 394 5 48.8% L1
SAFC 6 2 3 1 509 585 5 46.5% L2
PAFC 6 1 5 469 577 2 44.8% L1

This weeks fixtures are:

West vs Port (Richmond) Friday night - Port need a win to stay in touch (remarkably) on a ladder where results of other games mean they are not out of it by any means this season. West looking to consolidate a spot in the top 5.

Glenelg v Eagles (Glenelg) - Eagles will want to consolidate top spot with Central having the bye, whilst the Bays will be out to win after a bad result against Norwood.

Sturt v South (Unley) - these two teams drew in round 1 and both desperately need the two points to stay in touch with the five.

North v Norwood (Prospect) - both teams equal on points but North has a poor percentage and Norwood has the bye the following week.

Central (bye) - with 5 wins and the ladder the way it is, it's as good a time as any for them to have a weeks rest before playing the Eagles in round 9 at Elizabeth. Should be a bumper crowd for a match that will be played between the top two teams, irrespective of Round 8 results.

And talking to Daniel Schell from Central post game at Alberton, he says the boys are already eyeing this game against the Eagles as one they are looking forward to, one to hopefully continue their good form from the last fortnight and secondly, to hopefully welcolme back a host of experienced players returning from injury.

Don't know about a "blockbuster" but agree it is a very intriguing round which would be great to see each game and will start to tell a few stories this year.
