Eagles announce Captain for 2010 season

Postby eaglehaslanded » Sat Mar 13, 2010 11:57 am

Further to our email last week regarding the announcement of our Leadership Group, we can now confirm that Mark McKenzie will lead the Eagles as Captain in 2010. It will be his third year as Captain of the Club.

Luke Powell will ably assist as Vice Captain.

On the appointment Mark McKenzie said “I am thrilled that both Michael Godden and the playing group have entrusted me with the responsibility of Captaining our Club this season.

“I am pleased to let our supporters know that there has been a sense of excitement and expectation amongst the playing group throughout the whole pre-season that has us looking forward to starting the year with a bang against Port Adelaide at Woodville Oval”.

Michael Godden added “Mark was the overwhelming choice of our group to Captain this Football Club for the season”.

“We took a different approach from previous years in selecting both the Leadership Group and Captain. This year, all of our players had the opportunity to vote for who they thought exhibited the necessary characteristics to be a part of the Leadership Group and ultimately be Captain”.

“As a Club, we will continue to work with our group to help develop their leadership skills”.

I personally think this is an outstanding decision by the club. Macca always leads from the front and is the ideal man for the job. Luke Powell will do a fantastic job as vice captain as well.

thanks for post this up at SA Footy EHL

Some of us fans were wondering why the captain wasn't announced.Perhaps with a new coach the thinking may have been for a new skipper.
Seems they have a new way of selecting a captain and macca was successful.Well done to macca and luke .
Must say Macca has had an interrupted pre season .But in last nights 1/2 internal game he did the typical macca stuff coming out of defence.IMHO his best spot .

Interest call bayman. Certainly from leadership, consistency and versatility he is up there, perhaps not quite as brilliant as some other players.

It was a no brainer. He is a great captain. I wouldn't swap him for any other player in the comp.

Paul Thomas wakes up each morning and dreams of being half the footballer Mark McKenzie is.

If I were able to have one SANFL player at Norwood it'd be McKenzie.

that's just my opinion, i think he is the best player in the competition (clayton was until about 2 years ago) & one of the best captains going around & the league is blessed with some great leaders in the respective clubs around town
