There's a lot of things the Power can do to return better financial results and taking over a run down pub and a financial basket case in the Magpies is well down the list. The AFL would be concerned with a lot of other issues in regard to the Power.
Mind you IMHO the Power are a lost cause and a mistake that should never have happened but Im now getting off track so will leave that one.

If the POW doesn't help their bottom line, how long can they last? I just cant see how the Power are going to fund the Magpies and all their junior programs, the Eyre Peninsula etc if they're struggling to turn a dollar.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Wedgie, you could well be right about there not being in reality any financial benefits to the PAP from the merger. I sense you know a lot more about it than I do so I won't debate you on it.

All I am saying is I think the AFL would take a close interest in something that represents a big change to one of their clubs.

hondo, I usually agree with you, but I don't think the AFL is that interested in this matter.

I am not so sure this morning. I think the "snow" job done by Rucci and both Port Adelaide Clubs has filtered to the AFL (He was also on Melb radio last night with his bias) and he has painted a bleak picture of how much the No vote will hurt the PAP (Im not sure the AFL really care re the Magpies) and it's survival and reducing it's bottom line debt that it has worried the AFL enough to make a call or two to ensure that the merger issue is now a SANFL Commission decision and not left up to the League Directors. Bullying / blackmail etc cal it what you like?

My only question is - what would the PAFC (Power) do to improve it's financial situation and issues if either of the following applied:

(1) There was no PAFMC to merge with to get a cheap gaming venue income source or
(2) If the Magpies were so financially sound and were happy to continue on as it's own entity so not seeking a merger?

Also if there was no PAP in existence what would the Magpies do - seek a merger with the Crows or Collingwood or actually try to battle it out like the North and Sturt have done in the past?
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

if there was no PAP then arguably PAM wouldn't be in this spot so it wouldn't be an issue

now, there's a whole new can of worms!
