When will the AFL learn ?

Postby PhilH » Fri Oct 30, 2009 10:50 am

Not to schedule a showdown on Saturday afternoon !!

2010 AFL Draw
Rd 6 Sat May 1st 2.40pm - Adelaide (h) v Port Adelaide (a)

From an SANFL perspective I wonder which will be the sacrificial SANFL game to be played for ABC TV purposes

Otherwise
- Crows have 2 other Saturday afternoon games at AAMI
- Power have 2 other Saturday afternoon games at AAMI

So only 5 weeks out of 22 with AFL Saturday Afternoon at AAMI, that is less than previous.

Also for the mid year bye they have scheduled the Power and Crows on seperate weeks

The Power in Melbourne 1st week, Crows at home 2nd week.

Hopefully the SANFL's biggest minor round, if scheduled in the 1st week of the mid-season break wont be distracted too much by having the Power play away that week.

Sounds like good news to me and we should be thanking them. Only 5 out of 22 on a Sat arvo is a great result for the SANFL. Take out the occasional Friday Night, Saturday night games and byes then in theory SANFL fans should have to put up with no more than 2 Sunday games.
Let's hope the SANFL show the SANFL fans as much respect as the AFL has.
Thank you AFL!

I reckon that mid-season break the AFL have is a great opportunity to showcase the SANFL. Get the blockbusters on the program i.e.

Port v Norwood Friday at Norwood - 5 to 7000 to watch
Glenelg v Sturt down the bay - 7 to 9000 to watch as a Sunday game avo game
West v South/Eagles - Either way a bit of a local derby and with our new lights could get 4000?
Centrals v North at Adelaide Oval on saturday avo 5000?

If we could get 25,000 out over the weekend it would be a super achievement and doable with some strategic planning.

Hmm, may start a new thread about this feature round....

i don't think you could call the port v norwood game a blockbuster anymore ;) but i get the drift & it is a very good idea

Although I am not certain I was fairly sure that the SANFL had switched their programming on at least on occasion to switch from a Saturday game to a Sunday game? Perhaps the better idea is for the SANFL to petition the ABC to move their telecast to a Sunday match?
